There's plenty evidence on both sides of the debate about memory foam, so make sure you are fully informed before you get rid of it! My chiropractor recommended them to me, and I was amazed at how much better it made my back feel. I absolutely love it. But others don't like it, so you can't just go by recommendations. Do some research about why chiropractors recommend it, and see which side makes more sense to you. -Christie

I had one at the time too I was also told you can get a wool incasement for it to cut down or cut out your exposure. Not sure how true it all is but you can do some research on it though. > 2. Latex is a milky white liquid composed of rubber particles dispersed in water. This material is whipped with air to form a foam, which is heated to produce foam rubber, or latex. Latex is not a plastic foam, like polyurethane or furniture foam. So if your Mattress is made from rubber and does not have anything added, like some companies who add what they call " essential oils " (unless you can find out what oils) it should be okay. However, I would still cover it with a good " all cotton " mattress cover. If it happens to be made of plastic I think a good mattress cover would work okay too. > 2. You easily buy natural deoderants that don't contain aluminum at the health store, or use plain baking soda or coconut oil on your underarms. These things have been discussed many many times so please do a Message Search my dear. Bee
Guest guest
I worked in the rubber industry for many years. If it were latex, it would be harmless... because latex comes from a tree. However, after checking wikipedia, I see that memory foam was developed by NASA, and is made out of polyurethane. It's a shame too, because I always wanted one!!! Here's a quote: Hazards When new, some memory foams give off a distinct chemical odor which many people find unpleasant which some say is akin to the smell of paint. This odor decreases with airing, but some people remain sensitive to it. Emissions from memory foam mattresses may cause respiratory irritation more than other mattresses. Mildew and house dust mites may not occur so frequently so asthma attacks may be less frequent and severe [1] Memory foam, like other polyurethane products, can be combustible.[2] State and US Federal Laws have been enacted in the USA to require all bedding, including memory foam items, be resistant to ignition from an open flame such as a candle or cigarette lighter. [3] There has been some concern that high levels of the fire retardant PBDE, commonly used in memory foam, could cause health problems for users of memory foam bedding products. [4] And another quote: Memory foam is made from polyurethane with additional chemicals that increase its viscosity level, thereby increasing its density. It is often referred to as visco-elastic polyurethane foam. Depending on the chemicals used and its overall density, it is firmer in cool temperatures and softer when warm. Higher density memory foam reacts to body heat which allows it to mould itself to the shape of a warm body within a few minutes. A lower density memory foam is pressure- sensitive and will mould more quickly to the shape of the body. The example often used to demonstrate its properties is that a hand pressed into the foam and then removed will leave a clear impression in the foam. If I were you, I wouldn't throw it away. How much did it cost... $2000???? Doug > > > > Hello everyone, Some questions. > > > > 1. Memory foam mattress & pillow > > A month ago we bought a new mattress which is memory foam. Guest guest
I guess now, my " dream bed " is the Sleep Number bed, because it uses air. But I guess I'll have to check the other components to be sure!! Doug
Guest guest
Nope.... sleep number no good either... uses memory foam, and has problem with mold and mildew growing in the mattress material. I guess the ideal bed would be the " grandma's feather bed " Doug

I > guess the ideal bed would be the " grandma's feather bed " Hi Doug. Grandma's feather bed would be ideal. How about mattresses made totally of cotton or wool, animal skins, or grass mats? Or how about dirt? LOL! Now many people have back problems because of poor nutrition and not going barefoot enough to keep the back properly aligned according to Nature. Back when, people didn't have back problems and look what they slept on! Then the aristocrats had back problems and diabetes because they could afford mattresses and sugar, and they wore " shoes " , unlike the poor peasants and countryfolk. Duh? Look at what poor people wore on their feet and you get some clues too. They made their own sandals or moccasins. The best to you and Marina. Guest guest
Doug & Bee, There is a company here in Seattle that makes natural bedding - cotton, wool, latex - you can pick what components you want. We have two of their mattresses and a futon. They really are wonderful. I just called them and they do ship. Here is their website: http://www.soaringheart.com/ Lilac > > > > Nope.... sleep number no good either... uses memory foam, and has > > problem with mold and mildew growing in the mattress material.
