Guest guest
Georgina, Thanks for the info! My kids already think vitamins are candy - this would confirm their belief! Where do you buy these " candies " ? Obviously we all don't have the same stores to shop in - but do you find them at chain grocery stores or specialty health food stores? We had Zack's opthalmologist appointment on Wed. and he check out perfectly - actually stopped the excessive blinking a few days before the appointment but we took him anyway since I fought for him to be seen! Doc said that once the eyes are red and irritated it has progressed farther than they would like so it was not ridiculous of me to insist he be seen - she asked that the next time he does the blinking to use some saline drops to see if that helps and if not, to call her again. He goes back in 14 weeks for a routine follow-up. He has been starting to get a little warmer in the last few days - not a full blown fever but not normal (or below). So, I am hoping that it is due to a cold that he has - we go back to the ped. rheum. on Wed. - hopefully the blood work will not show more inflammation! We've been so fortunate so far! Hope all is well with your son! And thanks again for the info. TTYS, Suzie
Guest guest
Hi Suzie, I'm so glad to hear that your son's eye doctor visit was a good one, without any bad news. I bet you were very relieved :-) About the calcium ... we got it right in the grocery store. At Sack and Save. They're owned by the Foodland grocery store chain. A woman on another list told me she was going to try them, too. Yesterday she picked some up at a Walgreen's store. I guess you can find them now at a lot of different places. Each candy has 500mg calcium and Josh really likes the chocolate flavored ones. Hope Wednesday's appt goes well. And that Zach's starting to feel better, after the cold! Take care, Georgina SUZIEJONES@... wrote: > Thanks for the info! My kids already think vitamins are candy - this would > confirm their belief! Where do you buy these " candies " ? Guest guest
Thanks! Walgreens is across the street - I'll try there! Hey, another question: Zack has a cough and sniffles. The cough has been persisting about 2 weeks and sounds awful! But the Pedi. said that it's is just a regular cold/cough with clear lungs, etc. With JRA is it harder for the kids to " kick " even just a cold? When your son gets sick and he flares, is he just sick with a regular cold or is more serious like strep? Do their bruises/cuts heal slower also? Zack tends to get little scars (even before JRA) and is very sensitive to different fabrics/ tags in his shirt... but I noticed a small steam burn he got has taken a while to heal - maybe it's because he picks it!? But his skin is fair (he's blonde/blue eyes) and maybe that's just it? The Rheum. also said that the med. he's on (Naprosyn/Indocin) can cause pock marks or something in the sun this summer because he is fair. Although my Aunt worked for Syntex and did clinicals on the drug Naproxin and she said it wasn't photo-reactive (opposite of what the rheum. said)... What do you do in Hawaii? I would imagine some of the drugs Josh is on make himmore sensitive to sunlight? TTYS, Suzie
Guest guest
I can't help but disagree with your doctor. As nutrient deprived as hyperthyroid patients are, you need your calcium supplements. Maybe she is confused since many hyperthyroid patients have elevated calcium levels (hypercalcemia) due to calcium leaching from the bones. However, we still need supplements to help stabilize bone resorptiona and formation.
Guest guest
I was told osteoporosis is one of the risks of prolonged thyrotoxicosis, so taking calcium seems sensible. Whenever I ask anyone in the medical profession about any kind of supplement, they just go quiet and change the subject. I am not sure if Drs in England just don't think mineral and vitamin supplementation makes any difference; or if it is that, not being nutrition specialists, they feel they are not qualified to talk about them and might get into trouble if they do. I thought calcium was supposed to be very " grounding " for us, had not heard of it causing confusion but it's scary if it does - BU007 will know. Guest guest
Hi everyone! I have noticed that dairy products make my stomach upset to say the least. I have had a complete hysterectomy and I know that I need my calcium. What is the best kind and will it upset my stomach and how much should I take? thank you
