Guest guest
Yeah but with 4 oz on cottage cheese i won't get the right amount of protien in one servering protion. So this is why i have a full cup of cottage cheese., And the rice cakes what do you think about those which is my main concern about the cakes. You think they should allow to used in the meal plans. Guest guest
Hi Linet - I haven't seen the glycemic chart so can't answer you about that, but isn't 1 cup of cc a LOT? I would think about 4 oz is the right portion for protein at one sitting. I think if BFL says rice cakes are okay then they are! Rita snack question First i would like to say that this groups has been a great deal of support for me and plus i have been able to post my questions and get them answer in so many great ways. I love it and i read all the emails and i think all you guys are great and all doing great jobs. Dawn i have seen you website and you look great and you have really made such a transformation. Ok now for the question. Well is rice cakes a good way to put the carb into your meal. Right now for my last meal i sliced up just 2 strawberrys and put the thin slices on the 2 rice cakes with sprinkle equal and 1 cup of lowfat cottage cheese. The rices may i mention are salt free and no but and have zero fat and have about 7 grams of carbs for each and i am having 2. I brought them because i recieve a fitness guide from the body for life challenge and on the nutrition part they mention rice cakes as a good source of carb portien to change around alittle. Yet when i looked at the Glycemic chart it states that the index is about 80 for 2 rices cakes. Ok before i have any other meals with this can some one tell me if i am headed right way. thanks Linet
Guest guest
The only reason I said 4 oz. was when I started on BFL I had NO idea about how much cc I should use when I was having yogurt as my carb - and I called their toll-free number ... the guy there said 4 oz. cc with 4 oz. yogurt so now that is pretty much what I do. As I said if it says so in the book then it should be okay to use. Other than that I have no idea. Rita Re: snack question Yeah but with 4 oz on cottage cheese i won't get the right amount of protien in one servering protion. Guest guest
Rice cakes are probably one of those things that in a pinch or for variety sake might seem ok..but why? when there are so much better choices? Use more fruit for your carb portion (fruit *is a carb, not just breads, rice or pastas) ~ my fave is cottage cheese with cut up fresh strawberries & peaches (fruit is coming into season now so enjoy it) and the amount of cottage cheese is about correct too..most people aim for about 20-25 grams of protein per meal and 1/2 cup is 15grams of protein (so 3/4 is about right on for most peoples needs)..I also like cottage cheese made into a dip for veggies..so drop that rice cake and make a better choice! oh and btw..there are no 'snacks'..we are eating 5-6 minimeals a day..you only 'snack' on your freeday! <<joni>> *every bite counts*
Guest guest
Good advice Joni - Do you think its okay to eat cc more than once a day for your protein? I'm one of those who really like it! Guest guest
<< Do you think its okay to eat cc more than once a day for your protein? I'm one of those who really like it!>> Well I have been known to eat it more than once a day Rita..its an excellant source of protein and you can do alot with it in different recipes too..adding it to pancakes, making a veggie dip, adding it to a 'power pudding' or an 'authorized cheescake', or by itself with some fruit (I like sprinkling some Kashi cereal on it too!) so eat it as much as you can stand it, its good for you! (cottage cheese not only has protien in it but is alsoa source for glutamine too - which helps in muscle repair & soreness) <<joni>> *eat like a horse - look like a thoroughbred*
Guest guest
Oh thanx joni! I've found good things to do with cc so don't mind it at all! But one of my favs is Joann's Snackin' jello! YUM! Guest guest
As always Joni~you taught me something I did not know :0) cottage cheese helps with muscle repair~ COOL! Also I like your suggestion with cottage cheese and Kashi cereal...I never thought of that before. I also have been playing around with the chocolate crepe recipe you have on your site...I added some cinnamon and increased the cocoa amount a little more. Then made and then made a filling using only cottage cheese, Torani sugar free raspberry syrup, splenda, and some real raspberries. It was really good~ My husband kept telling me that there was no way that it could have been a low fat no sugar food :0) I will be posting the full recipe here in a few minutes with the stats. And I am going to work on a basic crepe [vanilla] with different filings, maybe using the ff puddings or even a low fat lemon curd. Just wanted you to know that I still check out your site all the time~ thanks Joann Re: snack question > << Do you think its okay to eat cc more than once a day for your > protein? Guest guest
Rita; Actually the snackin jello originated from Raylene [she is one of the founders on this site] so I am flattered that you think that it is mine but it is actually Raylene's :0) I just make it alot and love it like so many others~ Joann Re: snack question > > > << Do you think its okay to eat cc more than once a day for your > protein? Guest guest
The protein contained in cottage cheese is casein, which, according to the latest Muscle Media magazine, is the second highest quality protein you can consume. Whey is the first. So let's hear it for cottage cheese! Stasia

So my meals are breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, bedtime snack I think Bill refers to them as snacks in the book too Serenity

And the pancakes made with CC are WONDERFUL CC is a great source of the greatest protein around (Whey) so I wouldn't think that eating it all day would be a problem As long, of course, as it's LF or FF Serenity

Between the pages of 81-98, he refers to them as meals, or small meals. Where do the snacks come in? I agree with the other Bfl'er who said they like to call them snacks on their free day. I give snacks to my children at work, I think I'm going to keep it that way:) leigh fl

In his meal examples pages he calls them " Midmorning " , " Midafternoon " and " Late Evening " I call them snacks since those are the meals I don't eat veggies with usually. Guest guest
Joann - I actually DID realize that since you do call it Raylene's Snacking Jello so I will just have to remember to refer to it as that. Guest guest
Hi Bee, Just confused about snacks. I currently have Egg Smoothie for breakfast, protein and veggies with combo of coconut oil/butter/sometimes avocado for lunch. For snacks I either have 2 cups broth with 1 tb coconut oil or 1/2 Egg Smoothie and then dinner is the same as lunch but no coconut oil. I also do the Electrolyte drink as directed. I find if I don't have that snack, I can't fit in coconut oil. Do you recommend 3 bigger meals? Maybe once I am used to this, I won't be as hungry? Thank you! Genevieve P.S. My temperature has been 1-2 degrees higher already and my eye is turning red from inflammation (one of the later symptoms I had.) Yipee! --- > +++Hi ita. Don't go overboard with any snacks. It is best to eat " enough " food at mealtimes, rather than snacking, since digesting food taxes the body's energy and resources. You should become less hungry as you increase your " good " fats and your body changes over to running on fats rather than carbs, which can take awhile. To fit in more coconut oil, take it by the spoonful between meals; it takes very little for it to digest. > > P.S. My temperature has been 1-2 degrees higher already and my eye is turning red from inflammation (one of the later symptoms I had.) Yipee! +++That's fabulous! Well done!
