niacin flush

I have been taking 50mg niacin twice a day with my other supplements

for about 2 weeks and never felt any effects.

Well, two days ago immediately after my dose I got severe flushing. I

turned beet red all over, the palms of my hands (where I tend to get

eczema) got really itchy, my scalp felt tingly all over and my head

felt like it was going to explode! It was very scary. The rest of

the day I felt woozy and headachey.

I thought maybe I had accidentally doubled the dose, but the next day

it happened again. Both days I was afraid to take my evening dose so

I left it out. I'm afraid of being out somewhere when it happens. I

don't think I can take this happening twice a day!

Will these flushes eventually subside? Can I still get the benefit if

I only take 50mg a day? Can I halve the dose to 25mg for a while?

How do other people deal with these effects?

++Hi Jess. Some people get flushes at much lower doses than others,

so yes, you should lower your niacin to 25mg or even less. When you

no longer experience a flush on a particular dose for 5 days in a

row, increase the amount a little, and so on.

Since I am experiencing such dramatic flushes does this mean I have a

lot of stuff to detox? Is the goal to eventually be able to take high

doses of niacin without having a reaction?

Thanks,

Jess

+++Hi Jess. The most dramatic flushes are caused by the accumulation

of radiation from the sun. It isn't necessary to get up to high enough

doses to stop having a flush on this program. I did Hubbard's

Purification Program, which is supervised, where I eventually got up to

900 mgs per day, with no flushing, but there were many other important

aspects to the program.

Since then I've accumulated more radiation from the sun, TV, computer

and other sources so occasionally I will flush on 100 mg per day.

Hi Phyllis. Yes, the niacin flush is amazing. Just think of how much

toxin it is helping release, and also how your blood vessels and even

tiny capillaries are being dialated which helps circulation.

How much niacin did you take? The niacin flush usually last 1 hour or

less. To minimize the severity of the flush, take less, and only

gradually increase it.
