Guest guest
Hi Bee and all: My name is Hala and I've been on the candida diet for 3 months now. I have a question regarding Ghee. I bought a jar of Ghee from a store but I noticed that it doesn't melt at the room temperature and it smelled weird and looked more like a hard wax. Then I bought another Ghee from a different store and this one was melting and smelled good. I read that some people cheat the real Ghee by adding oil to the butter! the question is how can i tell a difference between a real Butter Ghee and a fake one? I know it's better to buy the butter and do it at home. But I still want to know how to tell the difference between a store bought Ghee whether it's real of fake. Thanks

I've bought Ghee from my health store but didn't find any that were weird like you describe. My goodness, it certainly is disconcerting when you can't trust the foods in a health store either. I don't think you can tell the difference in the health store. It would be cheaper and safer to make your own. It isn't difficult at all - here's the recipe: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/butter2.php The best to you, Bee > > Thanks >
Guest guest
Hi Hala and Bee, I read the below and I had the same experience (I think) as Hala. I bought some Ghee from an upscale grocery store, and the expiration date was not for a LONG time away. I can't remember if it was refrigerated? I think it was on the shelf at the store. It smelled weird when I opened it, and it cooked fine but made my food taste bad (in my opinion). My husband thought the same. I will try making my own. Thanks, ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- Hala wrote: <I bought a jar of Ghee from a store > but I noticed that it doesn't melt at the room temperature and it > smelled weird and looked more like a hard wax. I don't know, but I wouldn't be concerned about a small amount of lactose (sugar), since veggies contain a lot more sugars than butter. Also the butterfat helps your body break down lactose.
