Guest guest
Hello everyone, Unfortunately, I got bad sun burn on my legs and feet on Christmas day. So much for not using sunscreen! I was shocked how my body reacted as I used stay pastey white no matter how much sun I got. Perhaps my hormones-melatonin are more balanced as I actually reacted to the sun?! (trying to find the silver lining) The sun here is really intense so the last few days I have had to use some sunscreen. Now, I´m just trying to cover up and avoid outside during peak hours. I´ve also been putting copious amounts of coconut oil and aloe on my burnt skin. It hurt so bad that in the morning when I woke up and put my feet to the floor, my legs would sting so bad because the skin was so tight and the blood going to the legs would hurt. Any ways, about 1 day after the sun burn, my ankles started to swell. My husband was calling them ¨cankles¨ as you couldn´t tell the difference between my calf and ankle. I´ve NEVER had swelling before. Do you think this is caused from the sun burn? It is just weird that it is just my ankles as I burnt my calves, etc. I have elevated my legs quite a bit to take some of the pressure off. Thankfully, today, my ankles are only about 20% swollen and are returning to normal but they stayed swollen for 3 days. All of this just scared me and was afraid that I was doing something wrong with food-supplements, etc. I get fearful that it is due to all the fats I¨m eating but I know intellectually that this isn´t the case. I read through Bee´s endema article but I think this is something different. Just curious if anyone else has had such a reaction. I don´t want to fly home with puffy ankles as I know that flying can make it worse. Hopefully by then they will be back to normal. Thanks so much for any feedback! It is very important to limit your exposure to perhaps as little as 5-10 minutes a day at the beginning, and progressively increase your time in the sun so that in a few weeks, you will be able to have normal sun exposure with little risk of skin cancer. If you are really sensitive you can start by exposing only your feet and progressively more skin on your legs and then your arms. +++The rule is to never get burned. However, using sunscreen is not a good way to limit your sun exposure either. In fact, sunscreen is generally one of the last things you want to put on your body. That is because it is a toxic chemical that can cause problems in your system and increase your risk of disease, including cancer: see this article: http://tinyurl.com/2u85tx > > The sun here is really intense so the last few days I have had to use some sunscreen. That's good your husband has a sense of humour. ++The reason it hurt when the blood was going to your legs is because your body was rushing to heal the severe burn, in order to minimize the damage. Blood is healing, along with other immune substances that come to the rescue. Both more blood and immune substances cause the area to swell. Swelling is also important since it helps immobilize the area so it can heal better. > > Do you think this is caused from the sun burn? I wish you the best my dear. Luv, Bee
