Guest guest
They need to check your FreeT3 . The tests he did were inadequate to find out what is floating around in your blood. <>Roni Immortality exists! It's called knowledge! Just because something isn't seen doesn't mean it's not there<> From: Barbara Mackie <macbarb0503@...> Subject: Another Day Another Doctor " Hypothyroidism " <hypothyroidism > Date: Thursday, January 20, 2011, 7:11 PM Today I went to the walk in clinic and saw the doctor I had met previously in the emergency room. He was attentive, listened well, and wanted to find out what was causing the swelling and the rapid heart beat. When I told him there were no swollen lymph nodes at the base of my neck, he insisted on a scan because I've had the swelling for over a month now. He ordered blood tests, which showed the TSH and T4 right where they should be in the normal range. He checked other levels, and for anemia which I don't have, because he thought that might elevate the heart rate too. Today it was 104 in the doctor's office! Then he suggested a CAT scan to check for a blocked duct or a tumor that could account for the swelling. I told him there was NO WAY I was letting them inject that iodine into me again, since it was after the last Cat scan I got the high TSH levels for the first time, and he said they could do it without the iodine. I said I wanted an MRI. He claimed the MRI would not be as effective for seeing what he needed to see as the CAT scan, even without the contrast. Dummy me, let him talk me into it, without the iodine. He claims it's the same amount of radiation as a long plane flight, and that people don't realize it's a safe test. Then he said it would only be done from about the bottom of my nose to the upper part of my chest. Wouldn't the chest x-ray have showed a tumor behind the breast bone or in the upper chest? I asked him if it wasn't more likely the thyroid, which we know is enlarged, might be pressing on a duct, and he said that's possible. Anyway, the CAT scan came back normal, but he said there were a few lymph nodes under my chin that were borderline swollen. He could have found that out by feeling them. I told him I don't think they're any bigger than they ever were because I had mono as a child and had some swollen lymph nodes in that area that never went back to their normal size. Then he said I might have an infection, prescribed an antibiotic, and asked me to follow up with my know nothing doctor tomorrow. He said if the lymph nodes don't go down, a biopsy might need to be done, but that would be up to my doctor. So I know what it isn't. It's not lung Cancer, and my heart looked normal in the x-ray. That's good news and I'm thankful. Unfortunately I still don't know what it is, and the opposite cheek is starting to swell up a little now. I'm mad at myself for letting them talk me into the CAT scan because I remember what Chuck wrote about getting an MRI instead. Even though I told them that's what I wanted, somehow they convinced me to have the CAT scan by saying it was only on a small area of my body and the radiation was no worse than a long flight, blah, blah blah. I sure hope I haven't made matters worse. I'm definitely calling the Mayo Clinic back tomorrow to tell them about the swelling on my face, to see what they have to say about it. Guest guest
I agree with Roni; you need to check more hormone levels. I know people on here were saying to stay away from bio-identical hormone " pushers " , but many doctors who deal in that and/or anti aging actually have a knowledge of the " hormone dance " , and so can be very helpful to women your age. Edema can be a symptom of hormone imbalance due to hormones controlling the come and go of fluids in our bodies. Many peri/post-menopausal women should probably be taking estrogen and progesterone in a cyclical dosing pattern to mimic the natural cycle they have lost. Marla > > They need to check your FreeT3 . Guest guest
I finally copied and pasted the link and then it worked. I still don't know if it's a good idea or a bad one to take HRT post menopause. I'll have to find the answer to that question. <>Roni Immortality exists! It's called knowledge! Guest guest
I think it's a good idea to take the estrogen and progesterone separately, in a cyclical fashion, not at the same time. Similar to what happens for all of your life, until menopause. Guest guest
The " pushers " that I have warned against are those who " push " their brand of preferred T4 or T3 as being better than the competition because it is bioidentical, with the impression deliberately given that the competition is not bioidentical. Since all T4 and T3 from whatever source is in fact bioidentical [in that the molecules are EXACTLY the same] these " pushers " are either ignorant of that fact or else they are well aware of the fact and choose to hide it. In the former case they are ignorant to the point that I could not recommend them to you; in the latter case they are some kind of con artist. I would hope no one here has to rely upon someone massivily ignorant or a con artist for help. As for the bioidentical nature of other products I have no comment, as I have little or no knowledge of them. I do admit that it seems to me that " pushers " in general are not the most trustworthy source of any kind of information or advice. Guest guest
AFAIK Dr. Oz is an excellent cardiologist; unfortunately that's where the excellence ends. He promotes a lot of flim-flam meaningless mumbo-jumbo and a number of practices that fit squarely into what is well known as 100% quackery. His lack of knowledge of simple logic is appalling in any person who ever cracked a science book. Try putting " Dr. Oz quackery " into Google to see what I mean. Guest guest
That's your choice, of course. For me when I find someone is posting a number of things that are patently BS then it gives me cause to doubt anything he says. OTOH if you're into Rolfing and Reiki or similar scams he might be right up you alley. I'd personally vastly prefer you see someone who doesn't quack like a duck, but it's your choice. Guest guest
No; and [to illustrate the logical fallacy]* I never ate a $#!t sandwich. Nor will I ever. Regards, *The logical fallacy of saying, " If you never tried it then you don't know " contains the false assumption that there are not other ways of knowing besides trying something. As a matter of fact there are multiple ways. There are numerous things that it is patently unwise to try for oneself. .. .. > > Posted by: " Roni Molin " matchermaam@... > <mailto:matchermaam@...?Subject=%20Re%3A%20Another%20Day%20Another%20Docto\ r> > matchermaam <matchermaam> > > > Mon Jan 24, 2011 11:52 am (PST) > > > > Have you ever had Reiki perfomed on you? > > > > <>Roni > Immortality exists! > It's called knowledge! > > Just because something isn't seen > doesn't mean it's not there<> > > > > From: <res075oh@... <mailto:res075oh%40verizon.net>> > Subject: Re: Another Day Another Doctor > hypothyroidism > <mailto:hypothyroidism%40> > Date: Monday, January 24, 2011, 5:44 AM > > That's your choice, of course.
