Hi Thanks for the great emails and info I have had on here!

I went to see the new Dr today.

She is disgusted it has been left this long and I am so ill with it.

The " weight " I have on my legs and stomach is mostly water retention and she

wants to investigate my heart etc. She has said because my thyroid has been

failing me for so long my heart has had to do too much work on its own.

I am now swollen and sore with all the water on my body.

I have to go back on Monday for a full range of blood tests. to include the rt3

and all the thyroid tests. and also the vitamins. minerals etc. She also thinks

I could be diabetic as I am so thirsty all the time and overweight.

I am cautiously hopeful something may happen. first time in over 7 years!.

Emma

Hi, Emma. Good luck with getting any kind of effective treatment for

hypothyroidism under the socialist medical system in the UK if you don't

happen to fit the " mold " that the majority of patients apparently fall into.

A number of points: 500 mcg is IMHO a pretty darn large dose [mine is

75 mcg/day; on the low side]. I'd suggest you talk to Roni on this list

and get the list of tests needed to rule out an RT3 problem. Then try

to convince your doctors to run those tests and post the results here

[be sure to include the ranges].

Best of luck,

Excellent! Congratulations on finding a good doctor.

Remaining hypoT for an extended period can indeed bring on Type II diabetes.

Let's hope that can be quickly reversed.

Why do you have to wait until Monday for the tests?

That's the next free appointment to see the nurse for a fasting blood test.

Quite fast really! Emma :)

I understand how you feel Emma. I have gone through this. No one believed me

until my Rheumatologist was willing to do the correct testing. The tests are

Free T3, FreeT4, ReverseT3 and TSH all at the same time after a 12 hour fast

with no meds of any kind before the test. I usually have it at 9 or 10 am and

bring a bottle of water and my meds to take after the blood draw. Then, you need

to get a hard copy of the lab report complete with your results and the norms.

When you get all this if you post to the group we can help you. If your body is

not converting the T4 to T3 it feels like you're dying, which is how I felt.

Good luck.

Great Emma. Let them know that at least, there is somebody who

knows what they are doing - YOU! Good luck and keep us informed.

Luv - Sheila

Sheila, this letter is really useful and I'm

going to crib from it in preparation for a doctor's appointment I have

tomorrow!

Good luck to you, Emma.
