Guest guest
If your body is not metabolizing the carbs properly, you will not lose, even cutting calories as long as your carb count is high. Try cutting out some carbs to see what will happen. I also don't lose weight when cutting down on calories alone. <>Roni Immortality exists! It's called knowledge! Not that I advocate eating donuts all day. LOL I go mostly by calories and it seems when I cut back in calories I actually gain weight. I started eating almonds, which I was always afraid of and I didn't gain weight. So, that did make me think that some foods acted differently in our bodies. I am now considering trying to just go vegan for a while and see if that would work for me. I just want a few pounds off, and it would seem to me that just cutting calories should let me drop 5 pounds in a month with no problems. I can't even lose a pound a week anymore. Not even water weight comes off of me. Susie
Guest guest
I totally agree with with the idea that cutting carbs is crucial to dropping weight, without strenuous exercise either. The problems come in when people don't use common sense. Just because a person needs to cut carbs doesn't mean that person needs to double their fat or protein content. There is plenty to eat on a low carb diet. The reason people think they " feel good " on a high carb diet is because they are getting a " sugar high " . Also, I think lots of people don't associate things like fruit, corn, peas, legumes, beets, beans, ripe bananas and other starchy vegetables with carbs. I'm in the process of finishing up the carbs I have in the house right now. I can't afford to throw out food. The next time I go food shopping, I'll be buying no or low carb foods. <>Roni Immortality exists! It's called knowledge! This latest blog entry addresses the fact that there are different types of metabolisms. http://www.garytaubes.com/blog/ I would also recommend reading some of Mark Sisson's writings: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/ Check out other links on those blog sites, there's much good info on eating well to stay healthy ( NOT the low fat, whole grains BS the government/ vegan crowd pedals). These readings should lead you to an understanding of the bad compounds ( lectins, phytic acid, saponins) in grains and legumes. If you go " veg " that's all you will be eating. Yes. Your metabolism is variable. It adjusts to reductions in calories and to the mix of starches, proteins, and fats. The best strategy seems to be to get very slightly below your usual calorie intake, increase exercise, and reduce carbs in the mix. Your mileage will definitely vary. Guest guest
I think it would be well worth it to you to get a (paperback) copy of the Atkins Diet Revolution, whatever edition is current. Read it, and you will understand it all. The first time I read it I felt like a light bulb went on. There I was in the pages of that book. One thing that is pretty universal is that if you don't eat a lot of carbs, you won't crave carbs. The less carbs you eat the more this is true. Also, the only thing your body really burns for fuel is glucose. If you stop putting in a bunch of carbs, your body is forced into turning the fat that's stored into sugar to burn for fuel. Therefore you lose, even without exercise (which is good anyway, just to stay fit and work your bones so they stay strong). <>Roni Immortality exists! It's called knowledge! Just because something isn't seen doesn't mean it's not there<> From: Susie <moqui51@...> Subject: Re: The weight issue again hypothyroidism Date: Thursday, March 24, 2011, 4:31 AM Thanks everyone for the input on this. I wish I had kept a record of what I was doing differently when I lost the weight earlier in the year. I will read all the info suggestion and will work on the carbs. I love my carbs, so that is a hard one for me. I have the Carbohydrate addict book and tried to re-read it last night and it is very confusing and not really as clear as I would like it to be. In this book they suggest two low carb meals a day and one meal where you can eat carbs. The hard part for me is keep the carb meal restricted to the same meal every day, and that is what they suggest. I find that my carb loaded meal is usually breakfast, but that can make it hard when something comes up for an evening meal and I am not at home. I was planning on shifting my carb meal to the evening meal when I knew I would not be at home, but they said don't do that. It is making a little more sense to me after reading the book again, but I am still in a bit of a fog. Will give this carb restriction a try and see if I can stick to it for at least a month. Will report back if I find I am having any success. Thanks All, Susie
