Guest guest
Hi I have been diagnosed as hypothyroid since 2004. I have been put on thyroxine since then and I haven't had a normal T4 or TSH reading since then and my dosage of thyroxine hs been put up and it is now 525mcg daily. I had the implanon implant since 2007 when our youngest daughter was born (incidentally she has developmental delay, hypotonia, bowel problems, dry skin and weak hair etc since birth. I after 2 year saw the top endicrinologist in a hospital in Oxford about this and she agreed after many tests scans etc it was due to me being hypo during pregnancy that was the cause of this). Since the implant and after I had it taken out in June last year de to numerous problems and issues I have gained 6 stones in the past 4 years (2 of them in the past 6 months). I have been on a low calorie controlled diet since then and power walk, zumba and swim every day. The past 3 months I have had periods that have lasted for nearly 3 weeks, extreme bloating gastric problems, sickness and vomiting. I do not know what to do. I am too bloated to be hungry and I can't stop gaining weight. I was a uk size 12-14. Now I am a uk size 22. I am not the same person I was and I don't feel well due to being hypothyroid anyway. Any help would be so much appreciated. Many thanks. Emma
Guest guest
My husband and I have been doing the Eat to Live nutritional plan ( Fuhrman, M.D., author), which is very restrictive but effective. The only controversial thing with respect to hypothyroidism is that there's virtually no saturated fat for the first six weeks (though you can have limited amounts of avocadoes and unsalted raw nuts), which may have an impact on adrenal functioning. There are people on this list who are much more knowledgeable on that issue than I am though. I am sorry that you are struggling right now. Best of luck. Guest guest
As for the weight gain, cut out all carbohydrates and eat proteins and fat. Calories don't make you fat, your endocrine system does. > > Hi I have been diagnosed as hypothyroid since 2004. This makes you a good candidate for excess RT3, a type of conversion problem. Assuming you are following the protocol for taking the medication (one hour before and two hours after meals, and at least four hours away from metal cation supplements), you should test for RT3 and free T4 and T3. Unfortunately, many doctors in the UK system do not recognize this problem and may not know how to interpret these tests together.
