Guest guest
I don't really have any answers for you and hope your appointment goes well. I noticed you mentioned that your daughter's psych said her only stress appears to be her physical condition. This may not apply to her, but I just wanted to mention to you that there is a new antidepressant caused Cymbalta that can help with things like pain that is caused by fibro. It helps with physical symptoms along with emtoional symptoms. Good luck. Guest guest
-- HI , First I can say I and I know many others here completely understand the frustration you are going through. Of course I am not a doctor, but from what I have learned about this illness, is that there is no specific test that can determine if your child has JRA. It is a process if illimination, as well as gathering information about symptoms. Blood tests for inflammation can help in the evaluation of everything else, but it is by no means an exact answer...this is what is so frustrating about this disease. I know there are many kids who have completely normal lab results, but have severe pain and swelling and do indeed have JRA. I am not trying to worry you, and I really do hope that it is not JRA that your daughter is dealing with. I also truly hope you find an answer soon. Take care. Guest guest
Hi , It will be very interesting, indeed, to see what the rheumy has to say about the labs and what, if anything, to do next. The slightly positive ANA would sure explain the uveitis/iritis. The CRP means that at the moment in time when the blood was drawn, there was very little or no inflammation going on. Did they do a sed rate, the labs would say ESR. That test is a more generalized version of inflammation and would show if there's been any inflammation in the last few weeks. Does this one set of results determine JRA or not? NO, it doesn't. If she got labs like this taken every month or every 3 monhts or so and they still looked like the same results, I still wouldn't know. There are so many components to this disease that it is sometimes like chasing a moving target. Take one day at a time and write down everything that goes on with Krystal and hopefully a recognizable pattern or group of symptoms may emerge. We had one rheumy here, who actually claimed she sees kids, examine Hunter and do labs and then wrote him off as " not having any type of rheumatological problem " . That was a mere 6 months prior to him being in a wheel chair because he couldn't walk. You are correct that JRA does not go away. It may go into remission for any length of time, short or long or very long term. Keep searching and we're here for you. Stacia
Guest guest
Hi Jodi, That actually is a relief. The first rhuemetologist wasn't so concerned about the test results as alleviating the suffering. This one, I got the initial opinion that the results were the be all end all of diagnosis. The original rhuemy said that he was happy to NOT see positives on some of the tests because that opened up areas that Krystal definitely wanted no part of. Since her appt yesterday, I'm feeling more confidence in the rhuemetologist--now to see if it is justified. For Krystal, it isn't confidence in the rhuemetologist but frustration with herself for not being conclusive, believing it would make things easier for her. Guest guest
Hi Kim, Krystal sees her psychiatrist Friday, so I'm going to bring this med up. She is on prozac, which from what I'd read after her initial appt with the rhuemetologist, is also used to treat fibro, as is the ultraset. He reduced her ultraset to 3 a day because she's having dizzy spells and uncontrolled shaking of hands, etc. When she was put on the prozac, the psychiatrist said that there were a multitude of drugs that can be used to treat bipolar, so it was no major thing that the first 2 they tried didn't work. If Cymbalta works for both the bipolar and the fibro pain, it would be great. Re: Test Results I don't really have any answers for you and hope your appointment goes well. Guest guest
Hi Stacia, They did do a sed rate, it wasn't listed on the letter they mailed. The rhuemetologist said it was higher than he personally liked, but still within normal range, so for him, based on the ANA and symptoms, he would consider it inconclusive. In addition, he said that the lithium could afffect the testing. It's still confusing, nothing at all like when she received her original diagnosis when she was a kid. In addition, should her stomach bother her again, he wants her tested immediately rather than getting another prescription for Donatol. We did discuss keeping a journal as that would be helpful, not just to Krystal, but also to the dr. They could potentially see if something environmental affects her daily such as weather, job, etc. When she goes back on the celebrex, it would also indicate what degree, if any, her symptoms are alleviated. Guest guest
I took the exam on November 13th last year and got my results exactly one month later on December 13th. Guest guest
I didn’t receive my Iodoral tablets with my kits either. Dr. Flechas’ nurse told me they had been short staffed and now had new staff that seemed to be making mistakes. I was glad that I had Iodoral on hand for myself and to give my brother. It will be interesting to see if the results are ready in 2 – 3 weeks as promised. I have a low temperature and symptoms of low thyroid while my brother has prostate cancer. We have also given samples to the lab here in London to help them. The lab in London, Ontario is just getting its new testing unit so hopefully by March or April, Canadians can get their iodine loading tests done right here and save about $70 in shipping costs. Guest guest
That's great news Tammy! You have one of the more treatment responsive types so things look really good for you. I'm very glad to hear it. ;-) Do a search on peginterferon alfa-2a and you'll come up with hundreds of sites that will explain how the treatment works, possible side effects and even programs to get financial aid for treatment if you need it. (It's very expensive!) I suggest you start here http://www.pegasys.com/ If you can't click on that link directly, copy and paste it to your browser. It's the home page for Pegasys which is the brand name of peginterferon alfa-2a manufactured by Roche pharmaceuticals. Lots of good info for you there. ;-) You're still a good month away from starting treatment I'd say and that time was hell for me because of all the phone calls and paperwork involved in dealing with insurance. Hang in there and keep plugging away at them! It's the hardest part of getting started on tx in my opinion and you'll want to tear your hair out. lol As for side effects I wouldn't even concern myself at this point because you won't be starting tomorrow. ;-) First things first, deal with the now! If you need help don't hesitate to ask and you're welcome to e-mail me any time. mollydamaula@... One more thing that many people don't know.... some specialty pharmacies will come down on price because they're making millions on these drugs and they want you to buy from them. I started dealing with a new one just last week and when they quoted me a price I told them no way in hell I was paying that much. They went from my co-pay of $495.00 a month to $200.00 a month and absorbed the difference. Don't be afraid to speak up! Good luck and keep us posted!! Gayle > > Gayle, > I just got my test results back on Monday.. they found out my genotype is a 3A. So 6 months of treatment. with 3 injections a week.Plus the pills. The rest of my blood work looks good and there is no swelling of the liver, so I am assuming that we caught it in time before it actually did any damage.. Now, my biggest worry is the tx. Could you please give me some advise on tx and maybe some websites to go to get info. > > Thanx > Tammy > > > --------------------------------- > Shape in your own image. Guest guest
Thanks Donna. Val sent me her "experience" as well as a webpage with the details. The dr did not mention a biopsy - but I suppose it depends on what she finds. I am really hoping it's due to just being 5 weeks post partum when the last pap was done (crossing fingers!!!) Thanks for your thoughts. My appt is at 3:15 on Monday. Of course this IS a gyn/OB - never know if she'll have to go deliver a baby or something LOL.
