Guest guest
Saz, If you google for "Safecor Health Strong Iodine", you'll find that is it a 5% solution. That means your doctor is mistaken -- or you have misunderstood him. Each vertical drop you take is about 6.5 mg, so if you are taking 4 drops a day, your are getting only 25 mg, not 50. Lugol's and Iodoral have exactly the same basic iodine/potassium iodine ratio. Iodoral has additives to bind the ingredients together and provide for a slow release (after getting through the stomach.) It can be confusing, so just hang in there and keep asking questions. Sorry for all the questions, but I'm new to reading up on Iodine and must admit I'm a bit confused. But learning! SAZ > > 12.5 mg in each drop > > 5% Lugol's is 6.5 mg in each (vertical) drop. Guest guest
Hello , Thank you for the info. I spoke to a pharmacist today and he said 2 drops of the Strong Iodine would equal about 15 mg. I'm assuming that means Iodine %. 5% Iodine and 10% Iodide equels 8 drops to get to 50 mg Iodine. The doctor left a message on my telephone that I saved saying that 2 drops would be 25 mg and for me to take 4 to equal 50. So now I need to contact the doctor. This pharmacist suggested that since Iodine kills all around it - for me not to take the Iodine anywhere near the time I take my Probiotics. That made sense. Wonder what else shouldn't be taken with Iodine. Want to mention the difference in cost at various pharmacies for this product. One pharmacy charged $21.50 for a 14 ml bottle---not even half an once............ Another pharmacy was a little over $12 for 1 oz. The third said $10.40 for 1 oz. Guest guest
Since it doesn't seem to be any different than Lugols I would think you could save considerable money just buying Lugols and skipping the pharmacy and script. But that's me. I hate to spend more than I have to if I can find any way around it. On Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 1:24 AM, sarahadamz66 <bauble48@...> wrote: Hello , Thank you for the info. That >made sense. Wonder what else shouldn't be taken with Iodine. This is a common misconception. Iodine does NOT kill probiotics. Our bodies have developed with iodine as an essential mineral. Probiotic bacteria are different from others and one way they are different is that iodine does not kill them. At all. So the pharmacist is giving you another myth about iodine and you can disregard it. Iodine should be taken with food. >Want to mention the difference in cost at various pharmacies for this >product. Guest guest
SAZ,The iodine will not affect your probiotic. Iodine kills off the bad things, not the good stuff. Guest guest
Thank you and Donna~~Not only do I have a doctor who is incorrect about the strong Iodine strength - my pharmacist doesn't know that Iodine does not interfere or kill off my probiotics. I haven't a clue why I walk around in a totally confused state so much ..................But getting less confused. Thanks for the Ebay Lugol's 2% site. I'll keep that for possible future use. Would you happen to know how many drops of that I would need to equal 50mg? With the Strong Iodine I think it would be 7-8 drops. Thanks so much all of you for your help. Guest guest
2 drops of 2% lugol's = 5mg 5 drops of 2% lugol's = 12.5mg 6 drops of 2% lugol's = 15mg 8 drops of 2% lugol's = 20mg 2 drops of 5% lugol's = 12.5mg 8 drops of 5% lugol's = 50mg Saz, you're welcome. By the above table, it would be 20 drops of 2% to make 50mg. With your Lugol's, which is 5%, 8 drops makes 50mg. I think it's great your doctor wants you to take 50mg-- what a progressive doc! It's unfortunate he has his math wrong. -- >Thanks for the Ebay Lugol's 2% site. I'll keep that for possible future >use. Guest guest
Oh, , thank you for this information. Well done! The pharmacist suggested buying a larger amout of the 5% (a pint ?) and then it would be a lot less expensive. He didn't have the time right then to look it up, but he said he thought it had a long shelf life. It sure would have to have a long shelf life at only 8-16 drops a day. Anyway, I'm happy to know ~at least for now~ we don't need a prescription for the 2%. Guest guest
It has an extremely long shelf life. It could lose some potency after several years, but nothing to be concerned about. If you have a pharmacist able and willing to sell you a pint of 5% for reasonable money, that sounds like a really good deal to me. --V >Oh, , thank you for this information. Guest guest
It's a very good idea to decant a smaller amount into a separate bottle, as describes. This is how I manage my own. This is always a good practice with any bulk nutritional item, leaving the bulk of the product sealed and as undisturbed as possible. -- At 02:10 AM 1/23/2011, you wrote: >Saz, > >I think the shelf life depends on how often and for how long you open the >bottle and expose the solution to air. Guest guest
After finally finding that the generic liothyronine worked very well on me, I was switched to another brand and had to adjust my dosage. Now, the drugstore tells me that not only is the first brand not making it any more, the second isn't either, and she thinks I will have to buy the brand name Cytomel. This is going to cost me a whole lot of money, as I purposely bought a part D drug insurance program where I pay more for the premiums and had a $0 copay for the drugs I use. How can these people just keep jerking us around like this? I'm so upset. <>Roni Immortality exists! It's called knowledge!
