After 3 weeks of what I thought was a really bad case of the flu, I was

diagnosed with hypothyroidism. At the time my temp had been running at

75.6 for several days and I could barely stay awake. TSH was 13 and

some change. Have been on 50 mcg levothyroxine for 4 weeks, continue to

have the majority of symptoms including headaches and am barely dragging

myself through the day. I've seen my doctor but she insists the

headaches I have are not related (they disappear about an hour after I

take levothyroxine and reappear late in the day). I want to be

referred to a specialist but this GP has said that I only have what she

referred to as " a little hypothyroidism. " It's 2 more weeks before she

plans to run any more tests.

Please provide some perspective. Am I being impatient or should I push

for the referral? Does it typically take 6 weeks for the medication to

have any effect? I have no other health issue, take no other

medication, and up until 4 weeks ago was cycling roughly 200 miles a

week. I can barely function at work now.
