All it does is replace the hormones that the wounded thyroid would be making. If anything, antibodies can attack the medication and skew the indicators, such as TSH. Antibodies can, on rare occasions, subside on their own after a temporary flare up. The more common course is for the antibodies to persist until they eventually destroy the thyroid gland and then subside. This can take many months, depending on the severity of the antibody events.
