Guest guest
Fish oil is very beneficial for many things. I found out more of this after I noticed I was starting to develop arthritis. I now eat a small can of Tuna (not the kind in oil) on a daily basis and this contains the Omega 3 that’s necessary and since starting this some months ago, I’ve found my arthritic problems have lessened (no doubt just for now) and I’ll continue with it. I haven't really noticed a difference, but the research shows it is good for us, and it certainly does not hurt! Lilah in land fish oil Ok, so recently I have been reading more and saw that maybe fish oil could help with inflammation and that the American diet tends to be off balance in regards to Omega-6 vs. Omega-3. I did a search in the archive because I recalled there had been past discussions about fish oil and I think some of you do take it. For those of you that do, what dose and brand? Guest guest
,You might want to consider canned salmon in place of Tuna. Tuna can be pretty high in mercury. Another option is fish oil pills. The oil in fish oil pills has been purged of pollutants such as mercury, dioxin, etc. In the U.S., Costco is the cheapest source of fish oil pills. If you contact me by email, I'll send you a Consumer Reports article on fish oil pills and Omega-3 fatty acids in various kinds of fish that points out that tuna may contain mercury. Another thing to consider: your arthritis could be due to celiac disease. Celiac disease (CD) is easily treated by following a gluten free diet. I have a friend who is both aspirin sensitive and has CD. See http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/celiac/ . Guest guest
I've been using fish oil for some time. I use Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega. It's expensive, but it has the highest dose of the two really good omega-3s. Also, it has a lemon flavor so you don't get nasty fish oil burps. For those of you who are vegetarians, flaxseed meal is also high in omega-3s. I think that fish oil tabs helped slow my polyp regrowth. I just got back from a 2 week vacation, and I didn't pack the fish oil--I believe I notice a difference. I also stopped taking boswellia while I was down there, and I noticed some of my aches and pains coming back. Oh, one note about fish oils: if you start taking the supplement, you should also take a daily multivitamin. I can't remember which vitamin you need to balance the fish oils--I researched this a while ago. As with anything, do some research for yourself before starting to take supplements! Cheers, Becca
Guest guest
Bob, thanks for the information, I’ll try that instead. I didn’t even stop to consider the mercury. Unfortunately the arthritis ‘could’ be hereditary as my mother has osteo and rheumatoid. Again thanks for the information on the Celiac disease, definitely worth chasing up further as it’s something I just didn’t even consider. Guest guest
About three years ago I started taking omega 3 capsules, zinc/magnesium tablets, vitamin D, mixed B vitamin capsule, glucosomine, green tea tablets. I also take Singulair and a low maintenance dose of Seretide daily. I have nasal polyps (under control as I can breathe through both nostrils, although the surgeon would like to remove diseased tissue from ethnoid and frontal sinuses); asthma; osteoarthritis; depression; chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. My now adult children have among them sinus problems, asthma and chronic urticaria. One has had urticaria (non-itching) since birth, the other developed chronic cholinergic urticaria at the age of 15 (now 22). He used to complain about itchy feet and hands as a child. My father suffered from seasonal cholinergic urticaria as a teen into his early twenties. I'm convinced there is a genetic disposition to Samters. I have read that Singulair is good for managing inflammation. The mix of supplements seem to be helping me: I really begin to feel it if I don't take them for a week or so. I've learned over the years that I need to be in bed by 10.30pm, or am more prone to fatigue and react to more easily to triggers. I work from home, socialise little, and generally live a carefully balanced lifestyle. I get out in the garden as much as I can. My parents say that I wasn't the healthiest baby and my earliest memory of a sinus migraine was at age 6. My first polypectomy was at age 19. This is the age I developed chronic asthma after a bout of bronchitis, although I had a couple of suspicious coughing attacks as a primary school student. I now believe that all my conditions are related and that untreated inflammation runs the risk of leading to cancer. Do whatever works to reduce the inflammation. Although I don't have Celiac disease, I am definitely much healthier and more energetic and less reactive to triggers if I avoid eating any grains at all. I try to not eat anything like that before midday - get less heartburn that way too. all the best Beverley > > Bob, thanks for the information, I’ll try that instead. Guest guest
,Celiac disease is hereditary and causes both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. Guest guest
Bob, my apologies I wasn’t particularly clear on that but was referring to osteoarthritis. I was diagnosed with osteopenia about six years ago and around the same time, was recommended by me GP to try a natural HRT as I was menopausal. Now there’s no sign of the osteopenia now and this is after having regular tests for bone density as well. The GP has put it down to the HRT but whatever it is, I’m certainly not complaining. I live in London, Ontario, and I buy all of my supplements from iHerb in the US, since it is much cheaper, including shipping and duty and taxes paid when it arrives, than buying them locally. Last time I bought 4 of each kind, and at certain quantities you get further discounts. Delivery here has been amazing. My first order arrived in 2 days. If you have not ordered from iHerb before you'll get $5.00 off your first order if you give them my Rewards Number - see this page for everything you need, including recommended brands: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/resource/iherb.php Also you do not want to take only Fish Oil Supplements since they only contain Omega 3 (EPA plus DHA), so they are missing Vitamins A & D - you need the following nutrients, and the best source is Cod " Liver " Oil, not Fish Oil which isn't from fish livers: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/cod2.php#s6 The best and cheapest source of Cod Liver Oil is Garden of Life: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/cod2.php#s9 That brand is available from iHerb at $10.69 per bottle, and if you take 1 tablespoon per day along with 1 capsule of Natural Factors Halibut Liver Oil (available at local health stores throughout Ontario) you get the nutrients needed at the best price. Since we address people by their names rather than by their email address. Yes, Garden of Life is the best cod liver oil brand due to it being the closest to ideal, and it contains natural vitamins A & D. Its supposedly cheaper if you order from iHerb at C$11.45 and take 1 tablespoon daily plus a fish " liver " oil capsule that contains 10,000 IU vitamin A & 400 IU vitamin D, i.e. halibut, cod, or shark . iHerb Link: http://tinyurl.com/y4ewruj To get $5.00 off your first purchase at iHerb use Bee's Rewards Code, " EWI284 " , so she can get credit for your purchases. They have a few flavors. They have lemon, pina colada, and mango/peach. We've had the lemon and pina colada. Lemon seems to be the favorite, although I've heard that most people really like the pina colada. Good luck!myboycal@... Guest guest
I take green pasture fermented CLO, they have different flavors, but I doubt you will get away with no fish taste. I take mine in a shot glass mixed with juice. http://www.greenpasture.org/retail/?t=products & a=line & i=fermented-cod-liver-oil On Wed, Dec 8, 2010 at 3:11 PM, mrwill73 <mrwill73@...> wrote: I was just wondering if anyone could share with me a good fish oil? Guest guest
My Biochem teacher ( a chiro) explained that was the first sign of a bad fish oil. You want to find one where the DHA and EFA numbers total the total # of omega 3s as closely as possible. when there is a large leftover number its crap oil they have thrown in there. Also keep it in fridge so it doesnt go rancid. tanya > > I was just wondering if anyone could share with me a good fish oil? I take one that says NO fishy after taste and they are WRONG! Guest guest
This sounds interesting - a combination of fish oil and flax. It contains fish for anyone allergic, or would prefer organic. I use Chia seeds for the most part. Fish oils are not for everyone and honestly I do not trust could ever truly be mercury free. Guest guest
Hi Jan, Fish Oil is a food and therefore will not cause cancer. Here is an article on the complete benefits of fish oil. The only contraindication stated is when a person takes too much of it. As Bee has said, more is not better. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/993.html For the difference between Cod Liver Oil and Fish Oils, please refer to " Vitamins A, D & Omega 3 Daily Amounts " on Bee's Supplement List: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/weight/supp9.php#ab Nan B. Moderator > > Hi Bee, > > I have come across information on the internet from Prof. Peskin who claims not only is Fish Oil (derivatives of Omega 3s)not beneficial for you but that they can actually lead to cancer. He talks a lot about Dr. Otto Warburg's findings about cancer as well. Don't you mention Warburg in some of your articles? Do you know anything about Prof. Peskin and his findings? How does Cod Liver Oil differ from Fish Oils that he discusses in his articles? I would love your opinion. http://www.Peskin.com > > Thanks, > Jan >

How does Cod Liver Oil differ from Fish Oils that he discusses in his articles? I would love your opinion. http://www.Peskin.com > +++Hi Jan, Cod Liver Oil contains fish oil, called Omega 3 (EPA plus DHA) that Peskin discusses. Peskin doesn't understand Warburg's findings about cancer, as follows: " In every case, during the cancer development, the oxygen respiration always falls, fermentation appears, and the highly differentiated cells are transformed into fermenting anaerobes, which have lost all their body functions and retain only the now useless property of growth and replication. Thus, when respiration disappears, life does not disappear, but the meaning of life disappears, and what remains are growing machines that destroy the body in which they grow. All carcinogens [includes toxins] impair respiration directly or indirectly by deranging capillary circulation, a statement that is proven by the fact that no cancer cell exists without exhibiting impaired respiration. Of course, respiration cannot be repaired if it is impaired at the same time by a carcinogen [includes toxins]. NOTE>>>To prevent cancer it is therefore proposed first to keep the speed of the blood stream so high that the venous blood still contains sufficient oxygen; second, to keep high the concentration of hemoglobin in the blood; third, to add always to the food, even of healthy people, the active groups of the respiratory enzymes [see notes following this article]. If at the same time exogenous [from outside the body] carcinogens are excluded rigorously, then much of the endogenous [inside the body] cancer may be prevented today. " However, how do you speed up the blood stream, keep a high concentration of hemoglobin in the blood when the body lacks the nutrients it need to do that? Simply eliminating outside toxins doesn't help if the body is not able to detoxify toxins it produces naturally during normal metabolism (inside toxins), so how can it detoxify outside toxins? Adding respiratory enzymes to a nutrient-devoid diet doesn't help either. Peskin says he proves his wonderful oils inhibited cancerous breast tumors implanted in rats, however he had no control study using fish oil. Implanting cancerous tumors does not mimic what happens in the body when it forms cancerous tumors. IF fish oil caused health problems like cancer then the Eskimos who consumed a lot of it would have had cancer, however they didn't. Also people on my program wouldn't be getting healthy like they are. All the best, Bee
