Thanks. That leaves us out.

MHMR is based on 2 things:

1. household income

2. No. of dependents in family

If you are middle class and/or just have one child, it is very hard to get

funding. It's always GOOD to go to MHMR and apply no matter what.

Situations change.

Me too!!! Sometimes it feels like we're drowning. I believe income

standards are set county to county (based on cost of living). It's totally

worth it to call your local office and find out.

Thanks. I guess it is worth a try. It is hard to be in the middle...too

" rich " for help and too " poor " to afford a lot of the therapies. If it

weren't for insurance, wouldn't be getting any therapies at all, with

the exception of the little bit of group speech and o.t. he gets at school.

I sympathize with how frustrating all of this is. There is a very helpful

explanation of all of the different programs on the Parent to Parent of Georgia

web site, that helped me at least try to figure out which program we might be

eligible for. As far as I can tell, the only non-income based program is the

Deeming Waiver ( Beckett) Program. It is a very long and frustrating

process to apply for this also, but we finally managed to get approved for it.

You apply through your county Medicaid office (usually run out of the Dept. of

Family and Children Services).

Good luck!

Thanks ! We do already have the deeming waiver. We were looking for something that might help with the ABA. He's got a great program going but it's a struggle for us to keep up.

jeannie, Most hospital have different funds to help pay for hospital bills.

There should be notices around your hospital. You will need to go to the

billing dept. and you will also need copys of last years tax refund papers for

them to copy top see if you are eligible. Joanne

Many nonprofit hospitals also have access to funds which they may use to provide

financial assistance or even free care to needy patients. Information about

these funds can be obtained from hospital business offices, most hospital

discharge planners and social work staff.

Applying for Financial Assistance To apply for financial assistance, you should

express interest in this option to the hospital business office and cooperate

with hospital staff assigned to this program. You will usually be encouraged to

apply for General Assistance and/or Medicaid. These programs may, in fact, cover

all or part of the treatment costs. If you do not qualify for these government

programs, you may still be eligible to apply for financial assistance from the

hospital.
