Guest guest
Guys I know that none of us want to even consider the possibility of weight gain and I have to tell you up front that I have not been faced with HRT ---- yet. However, I am a firm believer in doing what your doctor thinks is best. I would never consider " taking myself off " of medication without discussing it with my doctor first. As an example --- I have " menstrual migraines " . I went off the pill (was on it for HRT even though my husband has had a vasectomy) when I had the MGB at Dr. R's request. After the migraines got to be too much for me after about 8 months I asked Dr. R if it was alright to restart the pill and he said yes. I then went to my OB/GYN. We discussed all the pros and cons and made a decision. I am now back on the pill and feeling fine. My point is --- always discuss things with your physician. There is " usually " a reason why they are prescribing something. Just my 2 cents...... in GA HRT Terri, I had started HRT also and found that I gained weight as well. I believe it was more water weight than anything else, however it was still very frustrating. I took myself off of it and the weight came off immediately. Now I just suffer from those occassional hot flashes......they are not as bad now because after the MGB I tend to run on the cold side so at times they are a welcome relief! Good luck. in Oklahoma MGB 12-07-2000
Guest guest
, Please do not misunderstand me when I said I took myself off of the estrogen. It was with my Dr.'s blessings. The water weight and bloated feeling far outweighed the benefits of staying on the medication. Hope this clarifies any miscommunication! Thanks you,

Guest guest
Hi Pam, That's a very interesting tidbit of news. Does anyone know if there id an equivalent gel for estrogen? It's probably been talked about already but my memory is not working well right now. I've had my TSH tested (yesterday) and hope to hear from the doctor within a week. I am also waiting for an ultrasound as he suspects my gall bladder - so do I - has been causing me much pain for the past 6 weeks. I was really unhappy about taking hormone therapy. Not because of what negative effects I had heard, but because there is a history of breast cancer in my family. I am now taking it and I do have osteoporosis. The doctor intends to keep me on it for a while and I will have frequent mammograms (oh boy). It does seem to have improved my memory a bit, and my thinking is clearer, so that's a plus. And my depression has lifted for the first time in a long time. This may be due to a new anti-depressant, or the HRT, or both. I've had no side effects from HRT but would be happier taking something more natural. K Pam wrote: This is interesting, but it does seem like they are using the word NATURAL and not explaining what they mean. But then this is just a news service thing. Thought you might like to see it. http://www.ivanhoe.com/docs/newsflash/hrtgelsaferthandrug.html -Pam-
Guest guest
I am soooo happy my mother never took HRT. Get this, both her sisters took it and later both had breast cancer. My Mom didn't take it and she is clean, thank God! This just goes to prove that what most of us are doing (going the natural route instead of RAI) is better!! Take care everyone. Guest guest
Listening to a debate on the radio about this HRT problem. He mentioned that while the chance of breast cancer slightly increases, the chances of bowel cancer i decreases! What kind of choices we are presented with in this life huh? Guest guest
well, I had the RAI and my doc stated it was an urgent. Little did I know that " Dr. Kilbane " , after years of medical school, thought this was the best thing. I'm not a medical student, that is what I pay him for. And was not inform. Now, I decided to not take any doc's advice, and it's sucks __________________________________________________
Guest guest
My Mother is 72 years old and NEVER took HRT. Her doctor tried to talk her into take pills last year but after she was told about the possible side affect of cancer she refused. She's taking ESTROVEN and feels wonderful. HRT scares me too - I'll try Estroven first. Mona Re: HRT > I am soooo happy my mother never took HRT. Get this, both her sisters took > it and later both had breast cancer. Guest guest
HRT (Hormone Replacment Therapy is not approved by most hepatolagists as it can increase your risk for cancers. The best advise I can give is drink plenty of water....start doing some easy Yoga.....and walk every day. At bedtime see if your doctor wioll approve something to help you sleep at night.I take over the counter Unisome and for me is great..and this has no next day side effects. Talk with your docs. Hang in there.Joanne ____________________________________________________________ Become a Dental Assistant and earn up to $50/ hour.
