Guest guest
, I'm so glad to hear from you. It sounds as if your father received loving care at the end of his life, and that's a wonderful thing. Hmmm -- maybe I'll try pool therapy. The pools here are outdoors, and sometimes the temperature outside is in the 30s, but the water is heated. And, one can look out to the ocean while swimming! I hadn't thought of its being suitable for me, but it might be. I know there are free pool exercise classes here. This could be useful; thanks for giving me something to think about. I'm so proud of you and so pleased for you in all your achievements. You give me something to aspire toward. If you'll excuse the cliche, you're a role model! Harper [ ] Chatting to the group Well in the spirit of sharing I have been through an emotional roller coaster the last couple of months but things are getting better now. In December my father became very ill and he passed away in January. It was only a matter of a few weeks so we didn't have much time but we spent as much time with him that we could. We were able to fulfill all his requests and be by his side as he left us. I am still a bit emotional and have a hole in my heart but it will heal with time. As far as medically I am doing great. I have been off of prednisone for a couple of years now but am still taking 100mg of Imuran. I will have to stay on the Imuran for the rest of my life is what they tell me since every time they try to even lower it my liver shuts down completely. My labs are " respectable " lol. I am getting a new biopsy in April and they are doing an MRI in the next month because of an area they have to keep an eye on. I feel great most days but they aches and pains can get pretty intense. I have started pool therapy and am doing the pool arthritis group and that has made such a difference in my life. The work out in warm water has helped my joints and back so much. I highly recommend it to everyone. I have lost over 30lbs now and am gonna keep on working til I lose the whole 100. I already notice a difference in my life and energy level. School is going great. I graduate in September with my Bachelors and then it is on to a new degree for this grandma. I am a little nervous but also excited. Having a future to look forward to after being so sick for so long is such a blessing. We are still having cold weather here in West Virginia but we get a taste of spring every so often and I am getting spring fever. The birds are back and I am ready for the flowers to bloom. Okay someone else s turn now. the WVa Hillbilly LOVE IS IN ALL THINGS AND IN ALL THINGS IS LOVE
Guest guest
Thanks for the pat on the back. As for the pool it is a real asset as the water takes pressure off the joints so it is easier to move. The warm water helps to loosen the muscles a little and of course any exercise is great. This is also a fantastic work out for the mind when you spend most of your time on school work lol. I am enjoying this new lease on life that I have found and I pray that I will have no set backs any time soon. If anyone is having trouble with arthritis or joint pain this pool therapy or even just going to an arthritis class really helps. I have found relief for my knees, hips and back. The only thing that I still have trouble with is my disc on long car rides. That is when I take the pain pills and Valium. Can't really complain about that. Of course now that I am a grandma I am doing all I can to get in shape so I can chase her around. I can;t believe she is almost a year old already. Time has really flown. the WV hillbilly LOVE IS IN ALL THINGS AND IN ALL THINGS IS LOVE ________________________________ From: Harper <flatcat9@...> Sent: Sun, February 20, 2011 4:11:49 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Chatting to the group , I'm so glad to hear from you. Guest guest
, you might like to look at a self-inflating seat/pillow, made by Therm-a-Rest. This firm makes a variety of seat cushions and pads that go under sleeping bags. I get mine through REI.com. Today I took one to the movies; it was small enough to fit in a pocket and weighed just about nothing, yet it self-inflated to make it possible for me to sit through a great movie, plus the necessary 40 miles of driving to get there and back.
