Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I really do enjoy reading everyones messages. saw the pediatric rheumatoligist on Monday. He was feeling great that day and still is. We didn't even talk about the enbrel because he is doing so well.We think maybe the mtx is kicking in. He is on 12.5 mtx we are going to try and wean him again from the prednisone this time more slowly. He is on 10 mg 3 weeks, 9 mg 2 weeks then continue doen 1 mg every two weeks and possibly try to maintain him on 7 mg.Supposedly at that dose there is less side effects and we are hoping maybe allow him to grow, he has been the same height for 2 years 3ft. 11 inches, the Dr. will be watching his growth carefully.I really notice his stunted growth now I see where all the children in third grade seem to be much taller than him,Actually he was a huge baby 11 pds and right up tp age 4 was off the charts in ht. and weight. The Dr. said itr could be the steroids or the jra which is stunting growth. The Dr. suprised us last vbisit when he said he thought might have juvenile ankylosing spondylitis, he mentioned it kind os matter of factly, but since I've got home and got thinking about it I wished I had asked more questions. I don;t know if that is better or worse than systemic Jra or very similiar, etc...In answer to your question Georgina, developed the adrenal insufficiency from a virus he caught and couldn't shake, he couldn't stop vomiting..The pulse steroids helped immediatley. He is outside now with the neighborhood boys playing frisbee but it is starting to look more like a football game. I try to tell him to be careful, he thinks nothing of tacking these boys and throwing them on the ground, I noticed they are always careful not to hurt him though.Therse boys are only 7,8, and 9 but they all seem to understand ryans condition They never sau anything to him about it but i can tell by the way they treat him during play, sports, etc that they know to go easy on him. We are really lucky to live in a neighborhood with such good kids.It is so nice to see being active. When he first became ill 2 years ago he was almost bedridden for 2 months, I remember thinking how sad it was to take off his clothes at night and have them so spotless,When I hear parents complain about there kids getting there clothes dirty or ripping the knees in their jeans I tell them to be glad their child is active and healthy. Now when I put s clothes in the wash I am thrilled to see the grassd stains!!!!!!!!!!!Sometimes I think having a child with a chronis illness makes you appreciate the little things in life...Well Ry just ran in and is looking for dinner!!!! More later wishing you all and your children the best!! Rys birthday by the way is Jan. 19 1991.. Jane
