Guest guest
Hi Georgina, We were lucky that we were able to get Elliot to the alternate day regimen fairly quickly. As I mentioned he was taking 9 mg daily and the Dr. put him up to 25. The next day he took 6 mg, then 25, then 3mg then 25 then nothing and he continued 25 every other day. The Dr. warned that he may not be able to transition so quickly and we possibly would have to go for a higher dose and taper the alternate day a little slower. Fortunately he managed. The Dr. said that in her research has found the side effects to be greatly reduced even at higher total dosages. Our first Dr. advocated taking the total dose of naprosyn ( from a 2 day period) on the off day- which is what we were doing when this Dr. became ill and we had to change Elliot's care. The second Dr. didn't practice in this approach and thats when we began daily steroids( Elliot had a flare) Out new Dr. trained under Elliot's original Dr. but when I discussed taking the full naprosyn in the off day, ( he was taking 125mg two times a day) she suggested giving him 125 mg of naprosyn on the steroid day and giving hin 125mg naprosyn in the morning of the " off " day and 250 mg at 5 pm on the off day as the effects of the steroids are lessened by that time. I hope this was helpful. Rena
