Guest guest
Thank you, Ursula. I will check out the links on kidney reflux. I am not looking forward to this procedure, to say the least. Do they give the kids anything to help calm them while they do it? (Something tells me they won't) Her fever went up to 103.3 earlier. I had to give her Tylenol and a cool bath to get it down, now it's right at 98. I hope she will be feeling better tomorrow... today has been one of her worst in several weeks. This infection has most definitely caused her to flare. She was doing quite well until this week. Again, thanks
Guest guest
Since a sit down bath isn't a good thing, I'm wondering if maybe Kelsey's pool therapy could be aggrevating her UTI? She goes for an hour once a week, but she doesn't sit around in her wet bathing suit or anything. We change her as soon as she gets out of the pool. Could the chlorine be bad for her? The links you have on Macey's page are great... very helpful. Thank you!
Guest guest
- the catheter procedure is called a VCUG and macey has had two of them. There are many kidney reflux links on macey's resource page. When macey was diagnosed with kidney reflux in 98 she started on Septra every day and has been on t for two years now. she does urine cultures every 3 months to check for bacteria. the Septra helps to keep the UTI's out so they won't scar the kidney's or the ureters. The kidney reflux comes in 5 grades with Grade 5 being the worst. Macey has grade 1 on the right side. sometimes reflux can be on both sides. http://boards2.parentsplace.com/messages/get/ppchildkidneyreflux14.html Good luck with the tests. P.S. I would give her some antihistamine medicine before the catheter procedure because it will help with the swelling and help her deal with the catheterization. it's not a fun procedure. http://home.att.net/~maceyh/organizations.htm - Links for Kidney reflux information are on this page. http://www.childrenshospital.org/radiology/patient/xray/patient/vcug_gpg.htm l - this is a wonderful link to explain the procedure to little girls. Guest guest
unfortunately anything that would make her calm will also make the bladder and kidney calm and that won't allow the radiologist to see if the pressure is there or what the problem might be. you want the organs to function as they truly do. the antihistamine is the closest thing we've found that will calm macey down and not alter her body functions. as with any UTI I'm sure you know to push water and cranberry juice and you might want to shower her instead of baths. bath water washing back up into a little girl with a UTI or kidney reflux is not a good thing. once macey was diagnosed with kidney reflux she's maybe had a handful of baths since. all showers now. my sister had reflux and they say it's congenital. there is a high incidence of siblings having it also but katie was so old by the time macey was diagnosed that she wasn't even tested. most children outgrow it by the time they're 5 or 6. Macey was diagnosed at 3 and katie was already 6 and had very little history of UTI's so they didn't think she was at risk. Sorry again to hear that this has aggravated the JRA. I guess it makes me realize just how our body interacts with itself. Ursula Holleman Macey and 's mom http://home.att.net/~maceyh
Guest guest
Macey's been in pool therapy for almost a month now, since the water movement is constant and the health club is diligent about their testing I wouldn't think so. the bath water is stagnant and isn't filtered or cleaned in any way so that's where the urologist was coming from I think. we see dr. Edwin smith on clairmont rd in Atlanta. it's near Egleston. they're great and come to Macon twice a month. where are they doing the tests? Guest guest
Ursula, We live in Salem (Roanoke area) VA. The tests will be done at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital. There are 3 hospitals in the Roanoke/Salem area and Community is my top choice. I'm nervous, but I will be relieved to at least know something. Guest guest
Are you making sure that Kelsey takes probiotics like acidophilus with all of these meds. I don't know if you realize it, but when you take antibiotic, it kills not only the bad bacteria, but the good bacteria which balance the gut. In my opinion, you should be giving her acidophilus 2 hours after the antibiotics for the best results. You can get them in chewable form in any health food store. Also, up your vitamin C to make her body acidic with the urinary tract infection. Guest guest
To calm her down , I'd get some Rescue Remedy which is a flower essence. It doesn't interact with any meds. It works to take the panic out. We all use it. I use it if I feel as if I'm loosing it, or gonna scream at the kids, my husband if he has a major meeting at work, my daughter if she is nervous before a test or before a big doctor's appointment. It's great. Any good health food store will have it. Just take a few drops in some water or juice. I can tell you that I've used it on my nephew to stop temper tantrums, etc. Bonnie Regional Director, PHD Products http://phdproducts.com mailto:bonnie@... 800-863-3403 RE: More problems for Kelsey >unfortunately anything that would make her calm will also make the bladder >and kidney calm and that won't allow the radiologist to see if the pressure >is there or what the problem might be. you want the organs to function as >they truly do. the antihistamine is the closest thing we've found that will >calm macey down and not alter her body functions. as with any UTI I'm sure >you know to push water and cranberry juice and you might want to shower her >instead of baths. bath water washing back up into a little girl with a UTI >or kidney reflux is not a good thing. once macey was diagnosed with kidney >reflux she's maybe had a handful of baths since. all showers now. my >sister had reflux and they say it's congenital. there is a high incidence >of siblings having it also but katie was so old by the time macey was >diagnosed that she wasn't even tested. most children outgrow it by the time >they're 5 or 6.
