Guest guest
Angel -- does McKenzie have arthritis in her eye? Is that why she is getting the injections there? I know my 8 year old daughter, Ashli, gets special eye exams every 3 months -- first to look for arthritis in the eye and second, because the plaquenil she is on has the side effect of eye damage. Understand your frustration with medication and side effects. The plaquenil Ashli is on is suppose to take up to 3 months to work and were on the 3rd month and so far I only notice things getting worse. But is it that the arthritis is just getting worse and without the medication she'd be even in more pain or is the medication just not working at all? Let me know how McKenzie is doing. God Bless, Sandi A. (Ashli's mom)
Guest guest
Hi Sandi, Yes, McKenzie does have iritis in her right eye, which is caused by the JRA. It is known as the inflammation of the eye. That has been the hardest thing to control in this whole JRA battle. It is also the reason we knew Kenzie had JRA. She woke up one morning ( when she was three) with one eye completed dilated and the other one was very small in size. The doctor assumed she had hit her head and sent her to the eye doctor just in case. very good doctor) The eye doctor ran some test and Kenzie came back with a positive ANA so they sent her to the rheumy. No signs of JRA in any of her joints at that time. A year later her knee swelled and six months after that her other knee started swelling. Now McKenzie has just a few fingers and both knees infected with the JRA. Mild compared to most but still heart breaking. We have tried eye drops sometimes every two hours and nothing seem to work so they suggested the injections and we gave it a try. That only helps for about six months. I agree with you sometimes I wonder if the Metho just masked the disease. I am to afraid to take her off in fear she will develop more joints problems. I don't even know if that is possible? I wish I had more time to ask the doctors a million questions but with three kids running around the office I can't even hear myself think. Well I hope things start looking up for you and Ashli. Our thoughts are with you two. Angel Beers Re: To Angel Angel -- does McKenzie have arthritis in her eye? Is that why she is getting the injections there? Guest guest
Angel -- good idea about the 504 allowing backpacks with wheels. I've noticed all the store with them, Ashli even has a small suitcase type backpack with wheels that she uses often (outside of school). Never really thought of using at school. Will ask teacher/principal when we have a meeting in a few weeks. Thanks, Sandi A. (Ashli's mom)
