But there are things about the move that may surprise you. WVLT VOLUNTEER TV News' Kelli brought you this report. School nurses will conduct the air quality tests. The 25 schools participating in the program were chosen because they have full-time nurses on staff. School administrators told us the kits are basic are the nurses will get a few weeks of training. One environmental specialist who spoke with us said a few weeks of training won't give the nurses the knowledge needed to detect major problems. School officials said it's one way to protect students. " Our goal is to provide preventive care if we can, " said Aleece , who works in health services with the Knox County school system. " We can do things up front to keep kids from having problems. That's what we want to do. " School administrators said the $60,000 grant primarily pays for one environmental specialist. If any of the nurses detect air problems after using the testing kits, they'll call the specialist to do further testing. Here's a list of the schools being tested: Gibbs Elementary, West Hills Elementary, Farragut Primary, Mt. Olive Elementary, South Knox Elementary, Sunnyview Elementary, Corryton Elementary, Sequoyah Elementary, Whittle Springs Middle, Fulton High, Greene, Vine Middle, Sam E. Hill, Farragut Intermediate, Maynard Elementary, Austin-East High, A.L. Lotts Elementary, West View Elementary, Christenberry, Belle Elementary, Fair Garden, Lonsdale Elementary, Fort , Copper Ridge, Dogwood Elementary.
