Guest guest
http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/features/093002_fs_toxic_mold.html Toxic Mold CONSUMER NEWS - Do you or your children have a cold that doesn't seem to go away? You might be sick of your house, literally! Read on and find out what two different women find out about their homes and toxic mold. Becky White's life began to change after moving into a condo. She mysteriously began to get sick. She was in and out of the doctor's office with chronic respiratory infections and taking numerous antibiotics. At her doctor's suggestion she hired two companies that investigate indoor air quality. Both companies found mold in her walls, floors and even in her bedroom. Mold, they said, from previous flood damage that was not repaired correctly. The two companies she hired removed the baseboards and were able to see the mold growth. Dr. Robyn Levy a doctor at Asthma Center says that many of her chronic respiratory patients have recently moved or had previous water damage in their home. According to Levy, " If there is a change in health related environmentally in anyway to someone's dwelling or workplace, that dwelling should be considered guilty until proven innocent and not the other way around. " Miccichi considered her home guilty in making her son sick, so she called the experts. Two-year-old Miles had what doctors thought was a series of colds and viruses. She thought that it was an allergy because the illness never seemed to have a beginning or an end. Medicine was able to help her son with his dust and mold allergies, but his mother wanted to get to the source of the problem. The tests on her home proved that there was mold growing in the basement. To remove the mold she had to call a Mold Remediator. This is a person who is certified and has been trained to remove mold. For Becky, the woman we began this article with, medicine didn't help. There was so much mold that she had to move out of her condo.
