The school board originally wanted to do this as early as Friday with students returning after November 12th, after Veteran's Day. Now they think that may not be completely feasible, but they could begin some work this weekend. Many parents are outraged at the situation and are threatening to pull their kids from the school until the mold problem is fixed. Both students and teachers have become ill with sinus problems, respiratory infections, and other symptoms that could be due to the mold. The entire mold remediation is expected to cost around $325,000. It involves cleaning the school thoroughly, replacing the ceiling tiles and carpet, and installing a dehumidification system. North and South Topsail Elementary schools also have mold problems. School officials plan to work on cleaning them after they've finished at the high school.
