" It would cost $16,000 to abate the mold, " he said, " but we don't know how much more they'll find when they get in there. " The estimate also doesn't include structural problems, including leaking pipes, foundation and roof. Before seeking funds to clean and repair the building, or replace it, Hulne said more information was needed. Several teachers who reported it to administrators discovered the mold the first week of school. The building was built in the 1920s and 1930s. Until a decision is made on the building, about 300 students are being bused to neighboring Ellsworth, where they are attending classes in the former junior high, which the district is renting for $4,000 per month.
