Hello. My name is Chellie and my son Tyler 5 was recently diagnosed

with Jra. He is being treated at Children's Hospital LA in California

by Dr. Reiff. He is currently in a clinical study for Vioxx. His

right knee is a 2+4 swelling alot better than when he was first seen

and his Left knee is now a 6+4 and it was at 0 when first seen.

He has elevated Liver Functions and a HLA-B27 NEGATIVE. yeah...

We are still ajusting to what Tyler can and can not do right now. He

is a great trooper.

He was scheduled for a Slit Lamp yesterday, but had a school yard

accident last week and broke his nose. The eye doc wasnt able to get

his eyes to dialate so his appt was rescheduled.

If anyone is being treated at CHLA, please email me.

Hi! I was just getting around to checking my email

(494 messages!) and read your message. My daughter is

also treated at CHLA by Dr. Bernstein. Her name is

, she's four, and she was diagnosed with

pauciarticular JRA about 1-1/2 years ago. She was on

motrin and wore an ankle brace for a while, and she is

now considered in remission. She will need quarterly

visits to the rheumatologist and pediatric

opthalmologist well into her teens. We'll just play

it be ear. I am also concerned about our seven year

old son who has terrible rashes all over his body, but

no other symptoms. The doctor says it is unrelated to

JRA.

Do you like your doctor and CHLA? Dr. Bernstein is a

very nice man and has a very good, gentle manner with

our daughter. CHLA is a bit of a drive for us (we

live in Torrance), but we have been told that he and

the hospital are the best in the area. We also have

an excellent pediatric opthalmologist in Torrance.

Hi , thanks for responding. CHLA is also a bit of a drive for

us too, we live in the San Valley, but so far I am very

pleased with Dr. Reiff. I do have concerns about the clinical study

of Vioxx that he is presently on. He is experiencing tummy trouble

that OTC meds are not helping, Dr. Reiff also thinks Tyler may be in

remission because his swelling and pain are not as severe as they

were pre-Vioxx study, but Tyler still complains and has morning

stiffness. His next appt is on the 29th so we'll just have to wait

and see. I have never met Dr. Berstien, I have heard 2 sides to him,

but don't know first hand. I understand he is the Director, so he

must be very knowledgable in this area.

I am glad to hear is doing well. I am curious to know what her

first symptoms of Jra were and how long it took until she was

diagnosed with Pauci? I hope that you find the source of your son's

rashes, glad to hear it is unrelated to Jra. Does attend

physical therapy or adaptive Physical education at school? I ask

because I was advised to place him in Adaptive P.E class.

Take Care,

Chellie- Mom 2 Tyler 5
