Rosberg presented her annual year-end report to the Carlton County Committee of the Whole at its monthly meeting on Tuesday. During the summer months, Rosberg works in the Carlton County Extension Office two days a week during the summer months to field horticulture questions from residents, assemble brochures and bulletins and work with the Master Gardeners program. Rosberg and her assistant fielded approximately 600 phone calls during the summer and identified some 30 plant and insect samples that were brought into the office. " This has been a good season, with lots of interesting problems, " related Rosberg, " the most interesting being the problem with chinch bugs.... According to the lawn insect fact sheet, chinch bugs are rare in Minnesota. With the help of (St. Louis County Extension Agent) Bob Olin, we were able to positively identify the problem and offer help to those who called with this unusual occurrence. Olin wrote a fact sheet about how to identify and treat the problem. " Rosberg reported that other horticultural oddities that came up during the summer were black rot in grapes, numerous problems with forest tent caterpillars, and, because of the damp summer, " lots of molds, mildews and mushrooms - in and on everything!
