Toxic Mold Forces Demolition Of Home

" This problem was evident at the time of the inspection but somebody missed

it. "

October 22, 2002

SACRAMENTO -- It's something you don't see every day. A typical house in a

typical Sacramento neighborhood, getting smashed down to the ground.

Josh Pino, A Sacramento building inspector, says, " Sewage was coming out of

the vents and the entire floor was full with sewage. " That's where it all

started. Pipes at a 22nd street home that may have seen too much drano over

the years, broke and mold began to grow inside the house. Josh Pino says,

" This problem was evident at the time of the inspection but somebody missed

it. "

A family lived in the home for 4 months. Josh Pino adds, " They had headaches

and felt nauseous. "

They're now suing the person who sold them this home, as well as the

building inspector. The mold found was penicllium and aspergillus

versicolor...both are potential toxin producers.

Neighbors here couldn't believe what they saw today. Bob Wong, a neighbor

says, " That is the first time ..I have been here 40 years and I've never

seen something like that happen. " The houses on either side of this one were

asked to keep windows and doors shut to keep mold spores from creeping in.

Kennedy, a Fox 40 reporter, says, " The soil here is expected to

clean itself up after it is exposed to air and sunlight.

Code enforcement is asking residents around here not to worry about ground

contamination. "
