Students continue to attend classes in 70 of the speedway's suites as mold remediation at East continues. The repairs to the school includes a $168,000 new roof and $550,000-$650,000 worth of repairs to chill lines, which must be repositioned and reinsulated. That money isn't in the school system's budget, nor is the $700,000 needed for fire-marshal requirements at several county schools or self-insurance run-out claims, estimated at more than $1 million. O'Dell says he won't ask commissioners for money until he has solid figures to work with. " Let's wait until we get firm numbers. Lets wait until we see what the sales tax looks like in December, which is our biggest month, and then try to find some solution, whether that's a bond issue, whether there's some reserve funds that can be used for those purposes. " O'Dell says it may be January or Febuary before he requests assistance from the county. In the meantime, O'Dell and Sullivan East administrators are working on providing large tents for students attending school at the BMS to eat under. Students have been eating lunch outside. The tents could be in place by mid-week. Repairs at East should be complete in three weeks.
