I suggest that anyone who hasn't yet read Dr. Mercola's latest MCS statement, that you do now.  http://www.mercola.com/2002/nov/13/chemical_sensitivity.htm

I am curious what folks think ... but I would also like to encourage people to make intelligent comments to Mercola, right away. His article/letter is carefully written and contains many good points, BUT he claims that "the primary cause of chemical sensitivity is often emotional trauma."

I appreciate this guy's site, but this article disturbs me because I feel that his SLANT only serves to provide ammunition to others who feel that therapy will "fix" the chemically sensitive, and I do NOT appreciate fueling the enemy.

And he claims to have treated hundreds of MCS/EI's "successfully" ... but I have never heard from one of these people, from anywhere ...

Has anyone else? He also doesn't substantiate much of anything he says. I mean, he claims EFT, some avoidance, and diet changes cure people. But we're just expected to believe it, I guess.

Don't we ALL want what he says to be true? How many of us haven't been through tons of therapy and all that already? I want to get better ... In fact, with my healer, I am using the EFT technique he talks about.

But is he also claiming that EFT is the ONLY emotional work that works?

I have no problem whatsoever recognizing the role that emotions and spirit can and do play in illness.  But to say to anyone suffering from severe chemical poisoning and resultant physical problems that emotions are the PRIMARY cause, is simple nonsense.  (If I go blind from splashing bleach in my eye accidentally, is it emotional and therefore not permanent?)

To me, this is the same as saying the PRIMARY cause of cancer is benzene.  That's crap.  There is more than one carcinogen out there. There are a combination of factors in chemical sensitivity, as in most illnesses, and to claim that you know the MAIN cause isn't just wrong, it's also unadulterated arrogance.  

(I personally think genetic damage from pollution BEFORE birth or conception is part of it, just as I believe that the human race cannot make major mistakes repeatedly, for eons, and get away with it karmically.  I think we're being affected by a lot of things.  But that's just me ...)

I wouldn't feel it necessary to comment on this if he had even given chemicals and emotional wounds equal billing! To me, the fact that he does not is HIGHLY suspect.

He says: <<  I was married to a Canadian physician who was disabled by severe chemical sensitivity. >>   

Now, being that his position doesn't make sense, the only plausible explanation for it that I can come up with, is that he feels his EX-WIFE has a few emotional issues he feels SHE's not dealing with. This is far more likely than his emotional-cause-of-MCS claim being true, from what I can tell.

But if this is the case, his bias could easily be solved ... if he simply practiced what he preached ... and did a little EFT on it. And we wouldn't have to suffer the damages of his easily-used-against-us argument.

Mercola is generally credible (not with me right now, but anyway), and his position is important, so I believe he should be politely contacted ... that is, contacted again, considering that he wrote this piece in response to all the MCS feedback he received after the last statement.

I encourage folks to CC the groups if they write Mercola.
