Rash Of Whooping Cough Spurs Warning

Outbreak Largest In 30 Years For Denton County

FORT WORTH, Texas -- A warning for North Texans is being issued as a rash of

whooping cough cases has health authorities on alert.

It's the largest pertussis outbreak in 30 years, with 8 probable cases

reported in Denton County alone.

Symptoms include a prolonged cough with a sharp whooping sound. Coughing

spells are sometimes followed by gagging or vomiting.

If you suspect you might have the disease, contact your local health

department immediately.
