Guest guest
Abbie throws up everything in her stomach within a half hour of taking Zantac. We have tried several times. So she says she would rather live with the stomach aches. Since they seem to come in cycles, the next time they hit I will bring it up to the doctor. Guest guest
Hi Lynn, when I was on Zantac I experienced some memory loss. I know sounds strange, but true and you know the cost of living.... what was I talking about?? But seriously, It really did affect me that way. Many hugs ! Uncle Rusty Limbs! I think thats who I am? I think it was Casaria who mentioned a really bad reaction to Zantac. Has anyone else experienced this? Here in Canada, they seem to have run out of cytotec, which Mickey is usually on to help protect her stomach. So they switched her to Zantac - (which she says tastes terrible, but she can live with it). I'm not sure when cytotec will be available again, and so far (other than the 'yucky-gross' taste) the Zantac seems okay as far as effect goes but its a worry, you know? So far she's doing well on her taper. Holding at 2mg per day for another week, then 1.5, etc. Her appetite has improved, which is weird. I always thought the higher doses of pred made her hungry, and as she tapered she ate less. This time, the lower it gets, the hungrier she gets! She's even hungry at breakfast, which is so NOT like her! I'm not complaining, we always have trouble getting or keeping weight on her. She was down a pound at her last check up, but had grown 3.5cm!!! (1 1/2 inches) Yay! Growth!!!! Not bad at all for 3 months, and more than she has in a year... I do hope the Tums will help, at least until the doctor has thought it out and come up with something. I can imagine how you'd not want to take any chances with Zantac, after those terrible side effects you had from it. If the stomache aches do continue, they may want to schedule more tests. Josh had an upper GI series done once, several years ago, so they could have a better idea of what we were dealing with when he had stomache complaints. His turned out to be not too serious and easily treatable. The symptoms went away once he began taking cytotec, 25mcg, twice a day. I hope Tasie's problems will be resolved soon. Take Care, Georgina ----- Original Message ----- From: Casaria Thanks. The spots and bruising are on her back right along her spine or on a joint, knee, elbow, wrist, etc. The only weird one is the red spot then bruise she got right where her rear end split starts, right at the base of the spine. Don't know anymore. Going to try the tums with the naproxen. I have had bad reactions to zantac. She may be different but I'd rather not chance it right now. Thanks so much. Hopefully we'll find out in August. Teddy bear hugs and love, Casaria and Tas

Guest guest
Christy, what about Rolaids or Tums? because if the Zantac is causing her to vomit, then I'd stop it now! Her body is say its not right for her, not at this time at least. I had the smae reaction with Indocin when I was first put on it. The doctor took me off for a while then tried it again. The second time I was able to take it with minimal stomach distress. I've taken so many different stomach antacids over the years to the point I started to look like a Tum's! Now, I just drink a cup of milk and or eat some food first and with it! hugs to Micky! Guest guest
Rusty, Like I said, the stomach pain isn't always there. Last time she was going through it we tried the zantac again (just in case). Same results. So I will ask about tagamet or something else if and when the stomach pain becomes an issue. Curtis and I think it is usually due to 200 mg of celebrex on too empty a stomach. Oh well. Christy (Abbie, 13 systemic)
Guest guest
Hi Rusty-: Even if it cuts her usual memory capacity in half, that would only ALMOST bring her down to my normal functioning level! The kid's memory is nothing short of astounding - elephantine, one might say, though I've never been sure why people think elephants even have long memories...? I'll keep an eye on her though, thanks for the tip. In my case, if there is a .05% chance of a bad or opposite-to-normal reaction to a drug... that's the category I fall in to. Mickey fortunately has only had a couple of adverse reactions to a couple. But I do like to know what to watch for, for sure. Guest guest
Hi Lynn, Robbie has been on his Zantac for about 3 months (I think - would have to go back and check to be sure) - he would agree with Mickey about the taste - the cyclosporine used to be the yucky one - but it has been replaced by the Zantac winning the yucky award. But Rob takes it with no problems, and has had no side affects. It has done a great job with his stomach pain (we ran out due to a local manufacturer shortage) and I found another pharmacy that had some - but missed two days and his stomach pain was back in full force. (I had wondered if he really needed it since they prescribed it when he complained of stomach pain without any testing) - but he does so well with it that I am in no hurry to go without again.
