Briggs, executive principal of the 2,200-student elementary school, sent a letter home with students Friday about the situation. In the letter, Briggs said the school and district would " take all steps to ensure the safety and environmental health of our students and staff. " Beaufort County School District spokesman said tests will be conducted throughout next week to determine air quality at the school. After Spartanburg-based AAA Environmental completes its report, the results will be made public, said. Mold and mildew in district schools have been a problem in years past. The school district sued contractors and architects involved in the 1991 construction of Hilton Head Middle School after air-quality problems surfaced at the school in 1994. Dehumidifiers were installed in some schools in 1994 to try to combat mold and mildew. Information Wrom: SHJEXXIMQZUIVOTQN
