January 2, 2003 Toxic Mold Blamed For Woman's Chronic Illness Inspection Reveals Mold MCMINNVILLE, Ore. -- A range of debilitating illnesses for a woman who bought a new house in McMinville turns out to be a problem with mold. Lillard- moved into her new house five years ago. Two years later she had difficulty breathing, nosebleeds, nosebleeds, diarrhea, high fever and mental lapses. She was a regular at the local emergency room. An explanation came when she had the house inspected. It was infested with potentially toxic molds, including a strain thought to produce carcinogenic chemicals. Lillard- isn't alone. According to the Insurance Information Institute, mold-related insurance claims rose dramatically in 2001. And some insurers have excluded mold coverage from their policies in some states. The molds seem to thrive in wet climates, as well as in humid, warm ones. Posted: Jan. 2, 2003 Copyright 2003 Associated Press
