Guest guest
http://www.newsday.com/ First Aid for Cruise ShipsRemember the scene in the beginning of "The Graduate," where the middle- aged guy walks up to young Braddock and whispers "plastics" in his ear? Listen up, everybody. Inside Stories has a new word for you: mold.More specifically toxic mold, which has been making people sick at home, at work and maybe on cruise ships. Which is where Ronkonkoma- based Tech Clean comes in. The company cleans up sick buildings here and around the country, especially ones with problems caused by mold in hard-to- find places. It's working on a proposal to be presented at a March convention of cruise ship operators, who have been beset by a string of mystery outbreaks of illness.President Ken Coffey, a former New York City firefighter, notes the industry is still in its unregulated "Wild West" stage, which may help explain his recent appointment as Special Consultant on Toxic Mold to State Sen. Carl Marcellino (R-Syosset).Maybe one of the projects Tech Clean can undertake is to get the mold off the phone message slip in Marcellino's office. We're still waiting for his call to find out what, exactly, he expects Coffey to do.
