while browsing the net, I became aware that a building I worked in (

from 1979-1988 was contaminated by VOC'S.

I read a New york State Dept. of Health report and summary that

mostly concerned itself with the cleanup of the site and its current

state as it relates to VOC-tainted groundwater entering into the

public water supply and, it touched slightly on the current occupants

air quality but it did give a one paragraph mention that stated the

previous occupants (like me)in the 80's probably worked in an

environment with higher than acceptable risidual PCE vapors ,

measurements in 1998 were 2000% higher than typical . I dont know if

this weakens over time and I was exposed to worse or if it increases

over time and I was exposed to less PCE's during my time at the site.

I guess I dont know much of anything and that is why I'm writing

this in this group.

the nuts and bolts of the story are;

1)150 Fulton ave , Garden City Park, NY is the site

2)the EPA id# NY0000110247 national priority listed site

3)the contamination began in the late 60's when a fabric manufacturer

used a dry cleaning process on site, including the

chemical " tetrachlorethene " or perc (PCE)

4)around 1985 the county DOH began investigating 20 or so public

water supplies down or side gradient form the industrial complex that

my building was in,

5)some time in the late 80's or early ninties they determined the

building as the probable cause of the VOC( volatile organic compounds)

6)for the rest of the ninties they investigated the site, determined

it was the cause, found a contaminated dry well, and began cleaning

up the site while continuosly testing the air, ground and water

related to it.

7)the report by the NY state DOH leaves unclear if the company i

worked for contributed to the contamination or not

I ave a lot of questions, with authorities, with my employer at the

time, with the owners of the property etc.. it could just be a

coincidence but my employer moved into the site right after the

original contaminator left, and then they left as the investigation

began in earnest in the late 80's

anyway , any help offered would be greatly appreciated

Bob
