Guest guest
I am a sick building victim. I have been exposed to mold, in process of being tested, for three years. Started with fatigue and blurred vision. Went onto headaches, severe headaches and eventually the respiratory system. I was sent to a pulmonary doctor last week and was told that I have the lungs of a 100 year old woman, or someone who looks like they have smoked for 100 years. I don't smoke, am 43 years old and feel very healthy when not in my work place building. I tried to talk to the pulmonoligist about the building I work in. It has flooded at least five times since I became employed. I saw evidence when I started working there that there had already been floods. The carpet has never been replaced, mold is growing on the walls and the roof leaks when it rains. After each flood the odor in the building was unbearable for about two weeks. The building has no windows. I complained in Jan. of 2002 about getting headaches, body aches, etc., and that I thought the mold and dampness was making me ill. Nothing was ever done. About two months ago when I would enter the building, within two to three hours I would have a hard time breathing. Two weeks ago it only took one hour upon arriving at work before I was gasping for air and coughing badly. I told my employer that I could not take it anymore. They finally sent me home and they have started to pull out the carpet and tear down the walls. I went to the doctor and he sent me to a lung specialist. Doesn't look good. But he doesn't seem to want to hear about mold in the workplace. He is a pulmonologist. He looks at me bewildered as to how my lungs can look so bad in a x-ray for my age. I just had blood drawn for a blood count. I hope this shows something. Does anyone have any advice as to where I can print information for my doctor about toxic molds and lung damage. I need information that a doctor will believe, not just someone saying they think they got sick from a building. He needs credible evidence. I don't know where to look, but I want to educate him so he will look and test me correctly. My e-mail address is, nolans@... I would really appreciate the help. I don't know where else to turn.
