Hamilton mold cleanup continues

By DEREK HARPER Staff Writer, (609) 272-7203While it is still cleaning up the mold in Town Hall, the township wants to get back into its 10-year-old building between Halloween and Thanksgiving, the mayor said Monday night.The Township Committee authorized a $464,880 mold-remediation contract with Pleasantville's Statewide Environmental Evaluation LLC on Monday night. Other contracts for water remediation and repair and reconstruction of the climate-control system are pending, Mayor Sacchinelli said.The township found mold in its Cape May Avenue building last year. The cleanup was under way, when a pipe burst in January's freezing weather. The water further damaged the building and set back the mold-remediation project.Now the basement is "99 percent clear," Sacchinelli said. The upstairs is "55 percent completed." Most of the township offices were temporarily moved to 5218 Atlantic Ave. in the Hamilton Business Park after the water break. The township still holds its meetings in the township building. Outside the courtroom, fans hum behind plastic-sheeted hallways, drawing air from the building.The township is moving its courts to Buena Vista Township next month, while work goes on in that room, Sacchinelli said. The Police Department also will be moved throughout the building as work continues.The township aims to have a clean building by Aug. 1, Sacchinelli said. Reconstruction can begin then.So far, the township's insurance has only paid $400,000, Sacchinelli said.
