Guest guest
If you get HBOT though, you won't need to be in a nursing home anymore. [ ] Re:Where can I get reliable SPECT scan/HBOT/SPECT eval? > >Medicare will pay for HBOT for TBI, only if your in a nursing home !!! It is a shame that the nursing home lobbies have so much control. If you do choose to go this rought, just be careful of the nursing home you choose. I am a 15 year survivor of anoxia, and spent the worst year & 1/2 of my life in nursing homes. My memories of the homes I stayed in, are worse then my car accident & rehabilatation. I remember most of that, and the group homes take the cake. > > - (visualize) > > >--------------------------------- >Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
, Say hello to Dr. Rockswald for Brad and Manila --- he went to school in Henning, MN with my dh and sil in the 50s. haha It has been my understanding that he was researching mostly with patients who were brought into the ER with brain injuries and doing the HBOT within the first few hours and days. I'm not sure how he stands on using it for long term brain injuries. J. **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
Hi--Thanks for your comments, to each of you who have made suggestions. I am avoiding the nursing home option, as I have spent enough time as a physician treating patients in a nursing home setting to see much to be enthralled about regarding that option. Because the Rockswolds are at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, I thought that was the most logical option to explore further. I did my residency at Hennepin County, as it happens. I called the neurosurgery clinic today, and on the strength of having my neurologist's prescription for an evaluation for HBOT, I was given an appointment to see Dr. Galen Rockswold in February. I'm not yet sure what this means, as the scheduling clerk was apparently not sure whether Dr. Rockswold would be in agreement with my agenda, which would be to get a SPECT scan/HBOT therapy/repeat SPECT scan initially, followed by HBOT course of therapy. I'll keep you posted! best regards, [ ] Re:Where can I get reliable SPECT scan/HBOT/SPECT eval? > > > >Medicare will pay for HBOT for TBI, only if your in a nursing home !!! Guest guest
Hi , Well, it looks like you're right. I got a call from a nurse who works with the research team, and she suggested an appointment with Dr. Rockswold, the daughter, who is a physiatrist, if I go to Hennepin. But she also said that she thought that Dr. Rockswold did not believe HBOT was useful for treatment out of the acute stage. It was interesting to me that they measured oxygen uptake on their patients by means of an arterial line and a jugular line, which would give them an extrapolated value, and haven't used SPECT scans. I guess it's on to " Plan B. Guest guest
, I emailed you before about the reasonable price of the treatments we are getting for our son in CA. Today I have been looking feverishly for the name of the doctor in Fairfield, CA -- near AFB who specializes in the treatment of autistic children with HBOT and I believe has his own or ready access to SPECT scan for those patients. I don't know if you are in a position to travel but I will continue to hunt for this info. He doesn't work with adults and Cameron has an anoxic brain injury and is now 26 so I didn't save it. **************Start the year off right.
