Guest guest
I have been ill with CFS since August of '75. I am very sensitive to odors and found out last summer, very allergic to molds. I live in southeastern Oklahoma, about 75 miles north of Dallas. I moved to an apartment in Dallas last summer and became very depressed. It continued for over a month. I told the complex manager that there must be mold in my apartment for me to be ill that long but she would not let me out of my lease. The deep depression continued and after 10 weeks, I entered a psych ward for the first time in my 27+ year illness. I felt well enough to leave after 4 days but the depression returned after going back to the apartment. The manager still wouldn't let me out of my lease. I went to the Dallas health department and told them my story. I couldn't believe it but the city made the apartment complex to pay for a mold specialist to come to my apartment to check for mold. It was in my air ducts. I was finally let out of my lease and moved my furniture back to my place in Oklahoma. Ever since though, I have been slowly going downhill. I recently read that mold spores can blow out on my furniture and other belongings and this could be causing my health decline. I checked for mold and thought someone on your list can answer these concerns. I cannot afford more furniture and I live in a mobile home. It belonged to my mother before her passing. She had a cat & dog and I tried to shampoo the odor out of the carpet but couldn't. I started tearing it up in my living room yesterday and parts of the particle board was soaked & rotting from when my mother had it. I had planned on replacing the carpet with tile but there are warning signs on the wooden floor that it contained small amounts of Formaldehyde. The warning said it passes government standards but for someone with respatory (sp?) illnesses, they should contact their docs. I couldn't believe what I was reading. I thought formaldehyde was outlawed years ago. My furniture may be contaminated and now my floor in my mobile home also. Any ideas on what I could do? I was thinking of trying to find a Dallas, Tx attorney to sue the apartment complex to buy me new clothes and furniture. I also need to replace the carpet and maybe the wooden floor.
