Last night I added a scan of a 1920's or 30's postcard of the interior

of a hyperbaric chamber taken by a photographer somewhere in Missouri.

Perhaps this is Cunningham's pre-Timken chamber? Wasn't he first in

Kansas?

You can see it at http://groups. / group/medicaidfo rhbot/photos/

album/441534705/ pic/400892624/ view?picmode= original & mode=tn & order=

ordinal & start= 1 & dir=asc

Notice the electric lights lining the walls, the electric lamps, the

candlestick telephone, the victrola, the wicker furniture, the cotton-

upholstered furniture, and perhaps oxygen tanks on the back wall.

So much for the dangers of electrical devices in a compressed air

environment.

Wayne,

Sorry for the delay in responding to your question. Your post was made via your

email address, and i had to first approve it.

You usually post on your AOL account, which is not " registered " with . Once

you register your AOL account with you can access the files page and the

photos page of .

Or you can access it through your email address which you used to make

this post about the 1920's chamber. A email account automatically

registers you with . All you have to do is sign in at http://www.

and then navigate to

That's the URL for the old chamber. It comes in 3 sizes. Original is the

largest. Once you've decided which size you want, just right=click on it, and

you'll be given a choice of how to copy it.

I'd like to hear your thoughts about it, given all the electrical appliances in

the photograph.

The lights themselves would not be a problem, as they are not in contact with

anything that would burn.

What people don't seem to understand is that an increase in oxygen increases the

ability of a fuel source to burn, that is all, and that alone doesn't mean you

will have a fire if a spark is created by any device.

I am not saying it is ok to take devices into a chamber FILLED with 100% O2.  As

I said, there is an increase in the ability for something to burn, and when

dealing with patients this is an increase that should be avoided!

The electric issue isn't nearly as big as the issues that can be raised

concerning the furniture.  Furniture polish, glue, etc would most likely add

toxins into the air, which we all know is not good!

Regardless, it is a pretty cool pic.  The sad thing is that the use of

hyperbarics has taken this long to really get going.
