Guest guest
Here's the deal. Oxygen is harmful at the right levels also. There are multitudes of medical papers written on the benefit of ozone at the right levels and used in the right ways. Reagan received ozone treatments for cancer while he was president. It is a well researched and much used therapy by medical doctors world wide. But too much ozone suppresses the immune system. Too much of a good thing, ozone or oxygen is a bad thing. Too much oxygen is bad for the lungs also. But no one is going to suggest that we avoid oxygen completely because too much is distructive. Chlorine is horribly toxic to the liver and lungs and more, yet it is readily available. No one is in a panic over it. It requires adult knowledge and handling. I personally avoid it like the plague. I filter my shower water, etc. Ozone would be a much safer way to clean city water. But ignorance keeps us chlorinating and flourinating ourselves to death. It is a matter of education. Industrial ozone and medical ozone are two different things. And units that produce nitric oxide are not supposed to be used for medical use, tho I understand some unwise people do use them. There are many factors. Does the unit run on ambient air or on an oxygen tank, for instance. Do a web search for a free on line book titled "The Story of Ozone" and you will learn about the medical uses of ozone. If you want to know the whole story of ozone, rather than just part of the story. And, as I said, I do not sell ozone or use it, as I can't afford it. But I am intelligent enough that, after reading the medical papers on it, I don't fear it's proper medical use. Blessings Donna p.s. the whole point of a chat group is to toss ideas around and information so people learn and find topics to research further. Why be scared about it. ----- Original Message ----- From: Gil Vice Sent: Wednesday, May 28, 2003 8:15 AM Subject: [] Re: ozone safety I find this ozone discussion a little scary,
Guest guest
I find this ozone discussion a little scary, particularly comments such as those from Country Girl. Why does she think the government is lying and some person of unknown credentials is so much smarter? I spent 32 years as an industrial chemist. My employer was the world's largest user of ozone for industrial purposes(Cognis Corporation, for those of you who want to research the topic). We took very seriously the guidelines established by OSHA. We recognized from a few unfortunate experiences how damaging ozone can be to people's lungs and eyes. Before modern analytical methods, the general rule of thumb was that if you could smell ozone, there was too much. But it was also realized that a person would gradually lose the ability to detect ozone by odor after prolonged exposure, and set himself up for health damaging overexposure. So, the factory was fitted with electronic ozone detectors (far more expensive than homeowners can afford). Ozone generated by any means is harmful. In industry, ozone is generated from concentrated oxygen, diluted with an inert gas. We used a finely controlled electric arc discharge, similar to lightening. Being almost natural didn't make it any less hazardous We found that ozone generated from air also contained assorted nitrogen oxides, even nitric acid. Who wants to breath that? We used very concentrated ozone for very specific chemical oxidations. Ozone seldom converts organics to carbon dioxide and water, and would never do so at the low concentrations of home generators. It does however oxidize materials to other forms, such as converting formaldehyde to formic acid, as one previous letter mentioned. Even some non-irritating organics can become irritants following ozone exposure. And don't forget that your carpet, curtains, and upholstery are organics, even the glue holding your furniture together. All can be slowly deteriorated with ozone. I strongly recommend paying attention to guidelines of EPA, OSHA, and NIOSH, and use ozone generators sparingly and only with the strictest safety guidelines, or better yet, not at all. But I don't like to see people miss informed. I have studied ozone a little and what I am seeing is misinformation being repeated here. I can understand why, it is because the government, as is often the case, is teaching error. For financial gain? I don't know. More likely just ignorance. From studying medical papers on ozone, this is what I have learned. Ozone does not damage lung tissue. It does however, react violently to toxins in the tissues, and this can cause irritation to the surrounding tissue. If your lungs are free of toxins you can breath ozone without ill effect. So a lung reaction is actually a sign that you are toxic and the ozone is actually helping. But a doctors monitoring would be wise. I would not recommend this to the layperson who has not thoroughly studied it. Dr. Saul Pressman said when he first started working with ozone he would cough and sputter, but as his lungs have gotten cleaned out he can breath it without event. Never the less, he does not recommend people breath ozone unless it is bubbled through something like olive oil. This give you the benefits without the discomfort. Ozone is oxygen and is no more life threatening than oxygen is. oxygen s o2 and ozone is o3 and that third oxygen molecule is very reactive. Which means it is eager to give itself up to neutralize cooties of all kinds, whether chemical or organic. When they report high ozone in the air, it is because the air is so freaking poluted that the atmosphere is trying to do what it is supposed to do and neutralize crap with the use of ozone. Ozone is not evil, it is good, and if it wasn't for the ozone in the air, the air would get dirty and stay dirty and we would all be dead. To give ozone alerts is like putting dish soap in dirty water and warning people to watch out for the dish soap in the water. Ozone is currently being used all over the world to heal people of all manner of illness that would otherwise be considered incurable. It was used in mainstream medicine in the US until the forties when big pharma decided it was working against their plans to heal people with drugs. You can contact Saul Pressman at ozonetherapy and he will send you a free copy of an e book called " The Story of Ozone " He is a good guy and is one of the worlds top experts on ozone. Lives in Canada. I am not interested in persuading anyone to use ozone. I just don't like to see misinformation being perpetuated. Ozone saunas are very healing, but can be an unpleasant experience until the toxin levels reduce. Same with ozone insulflation or cupping. Medical grade ozone kills cancer like nobodies business. It also destroys rubber, so don't run it in the same room with your vcr or other equipment with rubber belts. Guest guest
My wife and I are at our favorite local Friday nite fish fry bar. It's crowded and smokey. While waiting to be seated, I heard the bartender comment that he forgot to turn on the filter. He procedes to plug in a brown box on a shelf. In 15-20 minutes, the smoke is clearing and my eyes are watering. After the meal exiting through the bar, the smoke has cleared and there is odor like my mother's sewing machine. My eyes are realy smarting. Here's the question " do I complain about odor " ? At lest this is something to do while waiting for the mold to grow. --- In , " CountryGirl " <ruthful@p...> wrote: > Here's the deal. Oxygen is harmful at the right levels also.
