Guest guest
Dear Dagmar, The " niacin flush " is, I believe, the universal reaction to niacin, and does not signify an allergy to it. I used to take it, and also got the " flush, " and one of my doctors told me how to avoid this unpleasant symptom, but, as I stopped taking it over a decade ago, I don't remember what he said. Maybe someone else on this board can tell you. Joan ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Hi, thanks to everybody for the response about niacin. Actually the MD´s here in Germany are so poorly informed about vitamins that the one I went to couldn´t give me the idea it´s the niacin. Since I read a bit more about it in the internet, I decided to take it in the evening, when I don´t have to preoccupy anybody with a red face ... , you wrote that the trace elements could raise the pulse. I was taking another trace elements supplements, before I received the mezzotrace, and with that one I observed that my pulse went down immediately after I took it. So might be I should check it by changing back to that other supplement .... that one is completely free of zinc. Seems as if I can´t take any zinc yet. A funny observation I made is that I lost the longing for sweets nearly completely. I remember just one time when that happened before - I was eating vegetarian for quite some years, before I had my daughter, and at that time I had a lot of time for cooking, and eat lots of fresh salad ..... (but that was 10 years ago, and the food, so it is said here, contains just a tenth of the vitamins now that it contained ten years ago ...) I passed the first christmas without a craving for marzipan. A nice day to everyone, dagmar ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Hi Dagmar and Joan, Niacins dialates the blood vessels near the surface of your skin, that is why you turn red, it also dialates the blood vessels in your brain. It is very healthy and you cannot hurt yourself with it. If you do not like the flush, you can take niacidimide or other non-flush niacins you can find at health food stores. Happy New Year. Guest guest
Dear Dagmar, Do you have any idea what it is that caused you to stop craving sweets? I am a pretty healthy eater (semi-vegetarian) except for my sweettooth, which gets worse and worse if I don't control it. I would love to be able to stop eating sugar. Thanks, Joan ------------------------------------------------------------------------
