Toxic mold shuts down Red Cross building

Reporter: Andy Schroeder

, KY July 18 -- The Red Cross is always quick to respond to disaster, but the Cardinal Chapter in is looking for help rather than offering it. Their building is shut down because of toxic mold and they don't know where to go for help.

spends a lot of time on her cell phone, directing people to the new home of the Red Cross. The old one is closed for business because the roof of the century old mansion started to collapse. "I was sitting in my office and all of a sudden, the ceiling came crashing down. Almost immediately I started having problems breathing," said . "Its black. Its toxic and we were told not to be in the building any more than we have to. We've been making it but it's been hard."

The organization has a temporary home across town, but they're searching for a way to get back in to the old building. But fixing the roof and cleaning up the mold could cost almost 40-thousand dollars, money the Red Cross doesn't have. "We're hoping someone will come through and give us discount or volunteer their time or something to help us out, we desperately need to get back in there, but can't do it on our own," added.

The Red Cross is open to any help they can get... from financial support... to suggestions on where they can turn for aid.
