Something in the air July 28, 2003 Consultants and agencies have conducted at least six studies of indoor air quality at Denver International Airport since 1996: • Denver Department of Public Health, 1996: Found mold and fungi contamination in basement offices and training spaces in Concourse B. • Occupational Safety and Health Administration, 1996 and 1999: Identified various species of fungi in basement offices used by Air Wisconsin in Concourse B. • Occupational & Environmental Health Consulting Services Inc., 1999: Found two cases of mold and fungi contamination at levels that "could result" in employee symptoms in classrooms and mailroom used by United Airlines. • Roy F. Weston Inc., 1999: Collected mold samples in the "mail sort" area and found the growth could be attributed to "excess moisture seeping through the walls." Reported that the material is "no threat to DIA employees and contractors." • Tri-County Health Department, 2001: Used tracer gases to track odors in the Red Carpet Club West. Found odors emanating from elevator shaft and air-handling unit. A moldy and smelly trash can also discovered. • URS Corp., 2001: Found odors linked to decomposing de-icing fluid were making their way from outside storm drains into the Red Carpet Club West, a major component of the club's odor problem.
