Beilenson: Mold Triggers Asthma Attacks In Kids

Health Official Recommends Preparing Asthma Action Plan

BALTIMORE -- Five Baltimore kids have died this year after suffering asthma attacks. As a result, Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Beilenson is warning parents that mold hiding in the home could be a dangerous trigger for kids with asthma. "The bottom line is, the key to mold control is moisture control. And by doing that, we hope we can have an impact on asthma exacerbations that have been occurring the last few months," Beilenson said. Beilenson recommends scrubbing mold with a bleach solution, using dehumidifiers and removing any standing water. Beilenson also advises families to have an asthma action plan written down in case of an asthma attack, including what to do and who to call.
