Manipulation.

Dear Pam,

Thanks for thinking of me. Funny you should mention visceral manipulation, as I've been going for this treatment on and off for about 10 years. You are right, it does help HH. As I've mentioned, I do keep it under control with diet and occasional medication, and I also go for visceral work but didn't think to mention it. It's hard to find someone who does this work--I live in NYC, and know of only a few practitioners here. The first one I used moved away, the second one is out of commission, and recommended someone else, who I just started with. She's great, except that she is a massage therapist by profession, so her fee of 90 dollars is not covered by insurance---the other 2 were PTs, so were covered. I've had some chiropracters work on the hiatal hernia, but they didn't do other visceral work that I was aware of.

Is that the same as deep tissue massage?

Dear Dawn Rose,

I don't think so. It's not a massage, it just works on organs and other stuff by touching you and manipulating deep tissue--I can't explain the technique, but it's not a massage.
