Ok, I have a question.

I am the person who went into a sort of remission and now am approx. 7 months

pregnant. I just picked up my blood test results and they seem very strange

to me.

My TSH is abnormal, the reading is >.08 with a reference range of .4 - 5.5.

this makes the reading low, which is typical in Hyper thyroidism, is that

correct? But the other reading, which is for T4 free, which is the only

other thing he had checked, is normal but on the low end of normal. the

reading is .89 with a reference range of

..70 - 1.50. If anything this would put me in the lower range of readings

which would indicate that I would be closer to going Hypo, than hyper. Is

that correct? I mean if it dropped any further, that would put me in the

hypo range right?

Those two readings don't seem to go together do they? And if that is the

case, I probably shouldn't be taking any extra copper at this point, with my

prenatal vitamins? Also, I thought that a typical person would tend to go

more hyper during the later stages of pregnancy, you would think that my

readings would be high toward the end of hyperthyroidism, since I have graves

disease, right?

If anyone knows the answers to any of these questions, I would appreciate

your help. Thanks

Hi ,

I wouldn't worry about the TSH. It's possible that TSH goes down in the

latter part of pregnancy. Your T4 is probably normal because you've been

taking copper. You probably would have much higher T4 if you hadn't been

taking copper. I'm assuming you have a good amount of iron in your prenatal.

If iron got low your T4 could drop also. It sounds like you're doing ok. I

think at this point you should be happy to be on the lower end of normal with

your T4 than on the upper end. Also you don't know what your T3 is--that

might be higher and that is keeping your T4 low. I think everything is pretty

ok, considering all.

, it's normal at this stage in pregnancy for your thyroid hormone

levels to drow, which is why your FT4 is low. Often, patients on ATD's have

their dosages reduced. It can take quite some time (months) for your TSH

level to reflect this change so your TSH will continue to be low. Your FT4 is

a more accurate indicator of your thyroid status right now.
