Guest guest
Hello Peta Yes, I read some articles which made me very uneasy about using soy - unfortunately I can't lay my hands on them just now - but they indicated that soy blocked the uptake of some essential nutrients in other foods. Of course, I think we could find articles to praise or blast just about anything... Hope you're well. PS Sorry if my communications are disjointed - not all of them are coming through - must be something going on with my server ie Freeserve Soy scare - hi everyone! I use to eat loads of Soy (e.g. soy yogurt every morning) I have read some very alarming soy health scares - the worst being that it can add to risk of breast cancer ( this comes up a lot in reports). Hope this helps. Let me know? Peta
Guest guest
Hi Joan! Because I'm having to drastically reduce the amount of fish I eat,(iodine content etc.), I'm now quite limited for protein, so I've reluctantly started on poultry (occasionally). I also take micro-filtered Whey protein as a shake - as recommended by Kenton!! Apparently the most complete amino acid food available and very beneficial. It's made by Solgar (has to be micro-filtered etc). Maybe you could try it. It seems, from recent research, that we actually need more protein than was thought. (I think I'll probably have to turn my previous letter about high carb/low protein on it's head!) Too much carbohydrate, even unrefined, definitely throws insulin out of balance. -Love Peta x
Guest guest
, Concentrated carbohydrate is Bread, Rice, Potato,Anything containing any flour etc... Fruit and veg contain lesser amounts of carb. Concentrated protein is Meat, fish, cheese, eggs. I never mix proteins and carbs at the same meal. (helps digestion and counteracts acid reflux etc) Lots of foods contain mixtures, but the concentrated ones are the ones to concentrate (!) on !! Hope this helps, Peta x

Guest guest
Dear Peta, Thanks for the info. I take whey protein (I actually put it in my coffee, as it tastes somewhat like milk, although people have told me that it's strange to do so), although I don't know if it has undergone the process you recommend. I'll look into it. Best, Joan
Guest guest
Hi Peta, I also used to eat loads of soy - mostly as soy milk and tofu. Since being diagnosed as hyperT I have read lots of conflicting articles on soy. I just don't know what to believe. The place I've got to in thinking about this is that it is best not to eat too much of any one food. So now the only soy I take is part of a balanced nutritional supplement - and I keep my fingers crossed that it's doing me no harm! I actually went off the soy based supplement onto a whey based supplement last month - and had the worst month for PMT that I'd ever had. I have to wonder then whether for me the soy does have a beneficial effect. I heard on the Oprah show recently that soy affects the estrogen in your body in some way, which somehow prevents breast tenderness in PMT or menopause. The other thing I learnt is that a rapid pulse can be a symptom of menopause! By the way Peta, did you ever get the results back from the scan you had? (yeah, yeah, I know, I'm nosey!) >From: PParkegail@... >Reply-hyperthyroidism >hyperthyroidism >Subject: Soy scare - >Date: Mon, 6 May 2002 03:31:37 EDT > >hi everyone! >I use to eat loads of Soy (e.g. soy yogurt every morning) I have read some >very alarming soy health scares - the worst being that it can add to risk >of >breast cancer ( this comes up a lot in reports). >Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi ! The reason I've haven't mentioned my scan on here is that I never heard another thing!! I've been an ostrich about it (it was done on March 4th)- and I guess no news is good news, cos he said if there were cold nodules I would have to have them tested. So...I guess I'm O.K. I've reduced to 10 mg Carbimazole every few days. (I can just about bite a tiny 20mg pill in half!!) Keep well, Peta x
Guest guest
Hi: I assume the PMT stands for PMS here in the USA? I take the mineral boron which may help with the estrogen in the body. I just started taking soy yesterday. Although I have heard about the soy scare, I plan to use it moderately to help the slow down of the thyroid. I also plan to uptake on my minerals since I know soy can wipe it out of my body. Let's see how it goes for me this month. van Wichen wrote: Hi Peta, I also used to eat loads of soy - mostly as soy milk and tofu. Guest guest
Gidday , Yes, PMT is PMS - I'm just showing how out-of-date I am. Basically I'm talking about the premenstrual personality change/bitchiness problem! Plus other less than desirable symptoms ... >From: Cassity <mmztcass@...> >Reply-hyperthyroidism >hyperthyroidism >Subject: Re: Soy scare - >Date: Wed, 08 May 2002 17:12:49 -0700 > >Hi: > >I assume the PMT stands for PMS here in the USA?
